We are currently seeking a CAD Design Engineer/ Design CAD Draughtsperson to join our team in York. This is a full-time position, Monday – Friday - 37.5 Hours. The ideal candidate must be willing to relocate or reliably commute as this role is not remote.

Working under the Design Manager the aim of this role is to develop and finalize Louvre and Solar Shading designs ready for manufacture and construction. You will be expected to manage multiple projects from start to finish, showing care and taking ownership of these. This is a role where you must be organised, assertive and proactive while maintaining the respect of your peers and the production team. You will need strong research abilities that accompany your project designs, providing support and in-depth details where required. You will have strong communication skills to allow you to effectively pass all design information to the production and installation teams to ensure all projects are manufactured and installed to the highest level of success.

Typical Duties

  • Producing construction issue drawings from information provided by our commercial team, Site teams, clients, and other subcontractors for manufacture and installation.
  • Consulting with clients and other subcontractors throughout the design phase to co-ordinate the design of our works with other subcontractor works.
  • Issuing construction drawings to clients and acting on any comments returned.
  • Consulting with the commercial team and design manager to ensure projects are designed on budget and within the agreed scope of works.
  • Producing fabrication drawings, cutting schedules and assembly details with AutoCAD and Autodesk Inventor to be used either in house or by external fabricators.
  • Liaising with site installation teams to ensure designs are interpreted correctly and deal with any on-site design issues that may arise.
  • Attend Design Meetings with clients either online or on-site to discuss design requirements.
  • Producing Manuals to be used by the end client for maintenance of supplied products.

Requirements

Previous CAD design capabilities are essential, ideally with 2 – 3 years of relevant experience and demonstrated in a portfolio of previous work. Experience producing design and fabrication drawings in a construction and manufacture environment is advantageous.

  • You should have 2+ years’ experience with AutoCAD and Inventor/Solidworks in a professional environment (construction related preferable)
  • Strong understanding of Designing to suit manufacturing and installation constraints.
  • Experience of using 3D CAD software. (Ideally Autodesk Inventor - will accept Solidworks)
  • Experience producing construction issue drawings.
  • Experience with sheet metal desirable.
  • An understanding of engineering and/or construction drawing and principles.
  • The ability to multitask, be proactive, and able to work independently with minimal guidance.
  • Good team player & flexible approach to work.
  • Strong Problem-solving skills and a keen eye to detail.
  • Proficiency with standard proprietary PC software such as MS Word, Excel, and Outlook.
  • Good communication, numeracy, and IT skills.
  • Current driving licence (a must due to location).

Experience:

  • AutoCAD: 2+ years (required) – Other 2D software experience will be considered.
  • Autodesk Inventor: 2+ Year (required) - or other similar 3D software.
  • 2+ Years’ experience working in a similar role.
