My client is a leading Construction company and is seeking a Senior Health and Safety Advisor.

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced safety professional to work in a collaborative setting, where you will influence and lead all aspects of health and safety performance.

Key Responsibilities

  • Health & Safety System Implementation: Coach, advise, and guide project personnel on the implementation of the Health & Safety Management System.
  • Team Support: Aid in the management and oversight of the H&S team.
  • Policy Compliance: Ensure the application of Health & Safety and wellbeing policies, procedures, and statutory requirements in all project operations.
  • Safety Plan Development: Assist in the creation and review of the Project Construction Phase Health & Safety Plan alongside the Project Manager or H&S Manager.
  • Metric Compilation: Oversee the preparation and completion of quarterly reports.
  • Deadline Management: Manage and meet deadlines in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
  • Incident Management: Lead the entry and closure of project incidents in the reporting database when necessary.
  • Site Inspections: Conduct site inspections and participate in company H&S audits and inspections as requested.
  • Competency Maintenance: Maintain the health and safety competency matrix for the scheme.
  • Sub-contractor Assessment: Provide guidance on the evaluation and appointment of sub-contractors.
  • Performance Monitoring: Monitor and report on Project H&S performance as required by the HS Manager.
  • Incident Investigation: Assist in investigating accidents, near misses, and other incidents, ensuring their proper closure.
  • Performance Reporting: Ensure that performance reports are prepared for the H&S Manager and Project Director.
  • IFE Programme Support: Promote and support the Injury-Free Environment (IFE) programme in collaboration with IFE Champions.
  • Training Implementation: Assist in preparing and delivering training courses, ensuring relevant staff receive appropriate training, including inductions.
  • Professional Development: Maintain personal knowledge and competency in SHW management, including obtaining necessary qualifications and professional memberships.
  • Competency Card Compliance: Ensure compliance with the company's Competence Card policy, such as CSCS.
  • Innovation and Best Practices: Assist with implementing and communicating innovative and best practices.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Experience: Minimum of 5 years of related experience.
  • Education: NEBOSH diploma or NVQ level 5 or above in Occupational Health & Safety, or actively working towards this qualification.
  • Certifications: NEBOSH Construction Certificate or NEBOSH General Certificate or equivalent NVQ.
  • License: Valid Driving Licence.
  • Relevant Experience: Experience in H&S within construction is preferred, but experience in a similar high-risk industry will also be considered.
  • Construction Experience: Prior experience in a highways construction environment is desirable.
  • License: Valid Driving Licence.
