And right now, we’re looking for a Senior Portfolio Risk Manager. Based at our Capenhurst site location you’ll be 1st line embedded global risk management role reporting to the Head of Group Risk & Internal Audit, and will be working closely with the Director of Group Projects, located at the Capenhurst site. You will play a critical role in overseeing and managing risk across our CAPEX portfolio. The successful candidate will have strong analytical skills, a deep understanding of P3M Risk Management, and the ability to develop and implement effective risk management strategies.

What will your day look like?

  • Embed the Portfolio Risk Management Framework
  • Facilitate regular Portfolio Risk workshops with key stakeholders including Senior Leadership Team
  • Update and maintain the Portfolio Risk Register.
  • Liaise with internal auditors on the design and application of the Portfolio Risk Management Framework
  • Ensure effective linkage with Urenco’s Enterprise Risk framework and Project Risk Management Framework
  • Drive a strong risk awareness culture at portfolio level by ensuring a consistent and/or appropriate application of the standard management processes, tools, documentation and reporting for Risk and Issue Management
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with colleagues, business contacts and senior internal and external stakeholders to promote confidence in the Portfolio.
  • Act as the key contact point for portfolio risk related queries across the Portfolio.
  • Drive strong risk awareness culture at the Portfolio level and across the business.
  • Pro-actively work with project teams and the Project Assurance function to conduct regular oversight and assurance activities to ensure alignment to procedures, high quality data and provide meaningful risk improvement plans.
  • Monitor and report on risk exposure, the implementation of identified risk responses within the portfolio and individual projects.
  • Escalate portfolio and project risks to the Group Head of Risk as required.
  • Produce periodic second line risk reports to key forums including the Executive Board, Group Board and Group Risk and Audit Committee
  • Challenge the proposed design of internal controls in underlying projects to ensure key operational risks are addressed.
  • Conduct regular quantitative risk analysis across the Portfolio and be a key assurance point for QRA’s produced by the projects.
  • Recruit, train, embed and manage a team of site based direct reports responsible for
    • Programme level reporting including identification of KPIs and trend.
    • Interfacings with Project Risk practitioners across the different sites
    • Providing independent review / challenge / improvements of risk registers through sharing of best practices
  • Potential interface with other site teams (link between projects risks and other site functions)
  • Deliver general and targeted Portfolio risk management training to enhance understanding and ownership of risk and wider first line of defense at all levels.

What do you need to be great at this role?

  • Educated to degree level.
  • Relevant project management or risk management qualification preferred (MoR, APM, IRM)
  • Experienced user of ARM, Xactium or similar risk software
  • Experienced user of @Risk, PRA & Safran
  • Experience in Risk Management and project/ programme and portfolio environments
  • Planning workload and risk requirements for 12, 24 and 36 months look ahead.
  • Deep technical knowledge and expertise in risk management, P3M risk management and agile methodologies, with demonstrable experience in Portfolio Risk management frameworks
  • Ability to take ownership and demonstrate initiative, to negotiate, consult, influence, build consensus cross-functionally and successfully navigate within a demanding environment.
  • Professional presentation skills, including written and verbal communication proficiency in standard Microsoft programmes (e.g. Excel, PowerPoint)
  • Highly developed interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills and demonstrable experience in senior stakeholder engagement at all levels
  • Results orientated, self-motivated and capable of prioritising and organising workloads.
  • Professional presentation skills, including written and verbal communication proficiency in standard Microsoft programmes (e.g. Excel, PowerPoint)
  • Highly developed interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills and demonstrable experience in senior stakeholder engagement at all levels
  • Results orientated, self-motivated and capable of prioritising and organising workloads.
  • Strong Business and Commercial understanding: Understanding and applying knowledge of the business and sources of profitability and growth.
  • Critical thinking and problem solving: Analysing facts and making sense of information to effectively solve problems. Action Orientation: Taking on new opportunities and challenges with high energy, enthusiasm, and a sense of immediacy.
