Job Title:
PTS Vegetation Operatives (Climbers and Groundsmen)

We are seeking skilled and reliable PTS Vegetation Operatives, including climbers and groundsmen, for an exciting two-year project along the MLN1 line from Reading to Paddington Station. This is a fantastic opportunity to work on a high-profile project with the potential for long-term employment. Candidates should possess a relevant collection of Lantra and NPTC Arboriculture Qualifications and demonstrate experience in vegetation management, especially in environments requiring strict safety protocols. Job Requirements / Duties:


Climbers:
- Perform tree pruning and removal at heights using climbing techniques and equipment.
- Ensure safety clearances along railway lines.
- Use chainsaws and other power tools for high tree work.

Groundsmen:
- Assist climbers by managing ropes and equipment.
- Perform ground-level pruning and removal tasks.
- Operate and maintain chainsaws, chippers, and other machinery.
- Clear debris and manage vegetation disposal.
- Strimming and hedge cutting works.


Pay rate:
Between £140 - £180 per day (8 hour shifts) depending on level of experience, tickets / qualifications etc


Working Hours:
- 8 hours on site


Project Duration:
- Start Date: First week of August
- Estimated Finish Date: Two years from start date

- Aerial Tree Rigging (replaces CS41)
- Use of a Chainsaw from a MEWP (replaces CS47)

- Brushcutters & Trimmers - City & Guilds IA

- Clearing Saws – up to and over 50mm

- Pesticides – Hand Held Applicators (replaces PA6)
- Safe Use & Application of Pesticides Using Hand Held Equipment (replaces PA1 & PA6 Units 101, 151 & 152)
- Safe Use of Pesticides Using Hand Held Equipment – Various Units (PA6PP, PA6INJ & PA6MC)
- Hand Held Stem Injection (replaces PA6INJ)
- Hand Held Applicators for Stump Treatment Applications (replaces PA6MC)
- Safe Application of Pesticides Using Boom Sprayers (replaces PA2)

NPTC (City & Guilds) Qualifications:

- Level 2 Award in Chainsaw Maintenance and Crosscutting
- Level 2 Award in Felling and Processing Trees up to 380mm
- Level 2 Award in Felling and Processing Trees over 380mm
- Level 2 Award in Dealing with Multiple Windblown Trees
- Level 2 Award in Accessing a Tree using a Rope and Harness and Aerial Tree Rescue
- Level 2 Award in Aerial Cutting of Trees with a Chainsaw using Free-Fall Techniques
- Level 2 Award in Aerial Tree Pruning
- Level 2 Award in Aerial Tree Rigging
- Level 2 Award in Using a Chainsaw from a MEWP
- Level 2 Award in the Safe Use of Brush-cutters and Trimmers
- Level 2 Award in the Safe Use of Wood-chippers
- Level 2 Award in the Safe Use of Stump-grinders
- Level 2 Award in the Safe Use of Pesticides


Candidates are not required to possess all listed qualifications but must have a relevant collection of tickets to be considered for the role. We will accept a combination of Lantra and NPTC Arboriculture Qualifications, such as Chainsaw Maintenance & Cross-Cutting, Felling & Processing Trees, Aerial Tree Rescue, and the Safe Use of Woodchippers, Brushcutters, and Pesticides, among others.
