Senior Design Engineer – IC Engines
Peterborough / hybrid working (at least 3 days on-site per week)
Contract Duration: 12 Months (likely to extend)

Competitive Hourly Rate – up to £48 Umbrella OR £36.50 PAYE

About the Role: The Senior Design Engineer will join the Component Engineering Base Engine Team.

As a Senior Design Engineer in the team, you will be expected to strong relevant design experience, knowledge of IC engines and be able to lead, plan and execute challenging tasks and projects.

Key Responsibilities of the Senior Design Engineer – IC Engines

  • Design and packaging of a variety of core engine components which include:
    • Major aluminium and cast iron castings, geartrain, valvetrain, drivetrain and in-cylinder components. Components related to breather, cooling & lubrication systems, FEAD systems
  • Working in a multi-disciplined global team to ensure solutions meet customer, durability and functional requirements
  • Developing strong relationships with suppliers
  • Planning and managing project and sub-project deliverables, ability to lead
  • Conducting risk assessment through effective FMEA generation on components and systems to identify and address design risks and determine validation needs
  • Conduct or generate reports to support component and system design reviews
  • Work with suppliers using APQP methodology and tools

What We’re Looking For:

  • Knowledge in a minimum of one or more of the following Core Engine systems: Rotating Systems, Valvetrain, Castings, Lubrication, Breather and Cooling systems, Bolted joint and sealing experience
  • Minimum of 6 years design experience in CAD
  • Strong technical background (HNC or technical degree preferred in mechanical or automotive engineering) though other qualifications or experience are equally valued
  • Good understanding of Component Manufacturing principles & processes
  • Good understanding of Manufacturing Assembly principles
  • Design knowledge of engine & mechanical components and systems
