Location: Inner City area of Birmingham
Salary: £50,000 - £60,000 (Depending on experience)
Job Overview:
We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Responsible Individual to ensure that all legal responsibilities associated with the operation of our homes are effectively discharged. The ideal candidate will have a wealth of experience in managing care planning practice in children's homes, extensive knowledge of law and practice relating to looked after children, and exceptional leadership and management skills.
Key Responsibilities:
- Oversee the opening, registration, and operation of our homes, ensuring compliance with all relevant legislation and regulations.
- Supervise, support, and hold accountable the Registered Managers (RMs) of the homes.
- Ensure children in our homes receive care that meets the standards outlined in the homes' Statement of Purpose and Function and Children’s Guide.
- Regularly visit homes to build meaningful relationships and extensive knowledge of each child's care and EHC plans.
- Implement, monitor, and evaluate continuous improvement and development plans for each home.
- Supervise RMs and scrutinise Regulation 44 and 45 reports, Ofsted inspections, and compliance visits.
- Maintain evidence of staff training, experience, and skills, ensuring continuous professional development.
- Develop partnerships with other agencies to enhance care, accommodation, and support provisions.
- Ensure homes are prepared for Ofsted inspections and that administration systems are accurate and current.
- Oversee staff recruitment, induction, discipline, capability, and grievance procedures.
- Lead on tendering and framework processes as required by Local Authorities.
- Handle safeguarding concerns and ensure all safeguarding practices are followed.
- Develop and implement safeguarding policies.
- Ensure managers understand safeguarding issues, reporting protocols, and their duty of confidentiality.
- Undertake advanced training in safeguarding and child protection.
- Liaise with safeguarding professionals and attend relevant meetings.
- Keep accurate records of safeguarding cases and concerns and organise appropriate staff training.
- Review and advise on welfare risk assessments and ensure safer recruitment practices.
- Ensure staff and young people know and practice emergency evacuation procedures.
- Oversee financial budgets and records.
- Lead the assessment and admission of new children and young people into the homes.
- Manage young people vacancy levels and promptly action referral assessments.
- Substantial experience in managing care planning practice in children's homes.
- Extensive knowledge of law and practice relating to looked after children.
- Good understanding of safeguarding processes.
- Excellent leadership and management skills, including financial management.
- Minimum of two years' experience supervising and managing care staff.
- Autonomy in decision-making and management of placements within residential provision.
- Minimum Level 5 Diploma in Leadership and Management for Residential Childcare.
