This permanent position within the Defence & Security domain focuses on the development and integration of advanced avionics systems, especially for autonomous vehicles. You will support the electrical and avionics designs, conduct analysis, and oversee the integration and testing of pivotal aviation technologies. The role demands a motivated individual comfortable with managing multiple projects and deadlines.



Key Responsibilities:

  • Own the development of new UAV avionic system components from concept through production
  • Involvement in all hardware and software lifecycle activities, including planning, design, implementation, integration, debugging, testing, and documentation
  • Present integration and concepts for avionics systems to colleagues, management, or customers
  • Create detailed drawings, schematics, and models using CAD software
  • Design and develop embedded electronics, particularly power conversion circuits, power supplies, and filter designs
  • Design and develop safety-critical, real-time, embedded firmware
  • Customise and adapt the ArduPilot software to meet technical requirements of different platforms
  • Develop test protocols for the validation of components and equipment
  • Engage in physical integration of avionic systems and test system functionality
  • Communicate challenges with leadership and adhere to DO-178B/C Guidelines


Job Requirements:

  • Experience in using and customising the ArduPilot autopilot system based on the CubePilot hardware platform
  • Understanding of flight dynamics and autopilot system functionality
  • Experience with PID Controllers and tuning methods
  • Proficiency in C/C++ programming on embedded systems
  • Experience with Real Time Operating Systems (RTOS)
  • Proficient in using UNIX-based OS
  • Familiarity with DroneCAN communication protocol
  • Knowledge of source code control systems such as Git
  • Experience in designing both analogue and digital electronics
  • Signal conditioning experience, including designing analogue and digital FIR/IIR filters
  • ARM architecture experience
  • Experience debugging embedded systems using tools like oscilloscopes and logic analysers
  • Knowledge of modern software development practices and common communication systems and protocols
  • Ability to read and understand hardware schematics and datasheets
  • Self-motivated and able to work independently with minimal supervision
  • Relevant engineering degree or equivalent qualification
  • Understanding of CE requirements for electronic products
  • Good knowledge of project management processes and frameworks
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Software Suite: PowerPoint, Word, Outlook, and Excel
  • Right to work in the UK
