We are looking for an experienced Senior Finance Assistant to join the finance team of a large, successful retail business based at their Head Office in Plymouth. Reporting to the Overheads Manager and as part of the Overheads team, you will be responsible for overseeing several cost centres, ensuring that expenditure is recorded accurately and on a timely basis.

Day to day responsibilities will include the review of sensitive nominal codes, identifying CAPEX, prepayments and accruals. Ensuring invoices are approved and posted on a timely basis. Updating the Fixed Asset Register and posting journals for additions and depreciation. Analysing costs against budgets and reporting key variances to the Finance Manager team. Assisting in budgeting and reforecasting as appropriate.

The role is full time and provides hybrid working arrangement with a minimum of 4 days in the office per week. Flexible working may be available to employees in some instances, applying the principles of fairness and consistency whilst ensuring that the overriding business needs can be appropriately met.

Responsibilities

  • Ownership of a selection of cost centres & balance sheet codes
  • Posting and evidencing monthly accruals, prepayments and other journals as required
  • Assisting with our Construction Industry Scheme reporting requirements
  • Review of sensitive nominal codes for capital expenditure
  • Maintaining the Fixed Asset Register and related journals
  • Preparing and posting of weekly/monthly expenses and credit card expenditure
  • Analysing costs versus budgets and communicating key variances
  • Supporting budgeting and reforecasting

Skills & Requirements

  • Financial qualification (AAT or equivalent) preferred
  • Excellent communication and analytical skills
  • High level of accuracy / organisational skills
  • IT literate with intermediate / advanced Excel skills
  • Team management experience desirable
