Product Development Engineer

6-month contract

KAP Technical are working with a local  company specialising in the design and manufacture of high-performance materials handling systems ar currently looking for the following

Product Development Engineer

Duties:

Design Activities

1. Innovative product design using SolidWorks design software, from design specifications as required by the business.

2. Continuous improvement of existing products and processes.

3. Ensuring design quality, continuity and that design directives are followed.

4. Produce detailed manufacturing drawings from 3D models (SolidWorks).

5. Producing documents to support manufacture, operating manuals, health and safety and other documentation for assigned products.

6. Creating and managing BOM’s (Bill of Materials) within company ERP system (Jobscope).

7. Produce product technical specifications.

1. 1. Ensure that all designs produced: a. Are “Fit for purpose”, Innovative and value engineered.

1. 1. Support efficiency of manufacture.
   2. Meet the requirements of the design specification.
   3. Conform to statutory regulations for design, Health and Safety and operation and maintenance activities.

1. 1. Ensure drawings / parts database are always up to date with current revisions.
   2. Develop and maintain a set of designed standard products to support the company’s objective by maximising the number of standard products offered and manufactured.
   3. Support the design review process, as necessary.
   4. Creation and maintenance of any product specific technical documentation.
   5. Challenge existing designs and manufacturing methods.
   6. Work closely with the manufacturing department, Project Engineers and Sales team to ensure designed products meet the requirements of the business.
   7. Be hands-on, see product through from design to commissioning.

Project Execution

1. When standalone products are successfully sold, act as the facilitator to process these items through the company, acting as PE and liaising with internal departments and directly with clients to ensure that the orders are successfully executed. This will include creation and issuing of BOM’s, issuing of drawings and production of any bespoke drawings required.

2. To ensure that assigned contracts are undertaken in such a manner as to achieve customer satisfaction and to within contract cost estimate and to time schedules.

3. Ensure that documentation is appropriately filed, and that the company’s position is always protected.

Qualifications & Experience

1. Experience as a Design Engineer/ product engineer.

2. Experience in sheet metal and fabricated product design is essential.

3. Experience in special purpose machinery design, desirable.

4. Proficient use of SolidWorks 2022, specifically with sheet metal and weldments.

5. Use of AutoCAD 2D.

6. HNC or equivalent within mechanical / manufacturing
