We are working with a market leader in the highways term maintenance industry to recruit a Street Lighting Supervisor.

We are looking for an experienced and talented lighting professional to manage the street lighting maintenance within the contract. This will include all delivery functions, including budget management and advice on the strategic investment requirements on circa 150,000 lighting assets.

The team are responsible for the investigation, design, planning, programming, implementation and monitoring of maintenance works programmes.

In this role, you will be supporting and assisting with the co-ordination of a range of resources. You will deliver these objectives by utilising internal staff operatives and supply chain partners, consultants and other key stakeholders. Your aim will be to maximise opportunities and ensuring value for money solutions.

The post holder will be required on occasions to engage with Elected Members, District Councils, and strategic partners and other providers.

Key Responsibilities

  • To provide a first-class service to our customers, completing a high standard of maintenance to the highway network and helping to ensure that all maintenance activities are delivered in accordance with the strategies and policies of the County Council and Essex Highways.
  • Development of Street Lighting Service Plans and Task Orders annually and agree with ECC Commissioning Team.
  • Delivery and management of Street Lighting contractual KPI’s.
  • To help develop a street lighting services across Essex adapting and changing the service post completion of LED upgrade.
  • Manage and understand costs through the companies cost capture system and the ability to maximise value in relation to these costs.
  • Good working relationship with members and officers, to be seen as a trusted safe pair of hands.
  • Operational understanding of the maintenance requirements in dealing with 150,000 lighting assets and circa 45,000 annual lighting enquiries.
  • To assist with the identification of future maintenance programmes and liaison with our Asset Management team to aid in shaping future Capital scheme programmes.
  • Oversee additional responsibilities relating out of hours or night works on our key road network.

About You

  • Applicable degree qualified, HNC /HND with operational experience
  • Member of the Institution of Lighting Professionals
  • Excellent all round IT skills with Word, Excel, Project, PowerPoint
  • Working knowledge of HEA working requirements with current ESC card
  • Previous experience within a similar management role

You will need to be positive, independent, enthusiastic and have confidence in your decisions. The ability to motivate others is also key.

This role requires you to show due diligence in your appraisal of situations and application of engineering and lighting solutions, particularly in relation to health & safety and budgetary control of public funds.

Good communication and report writing is critical as the role will require liaison with elected officials and other key stakeholders to manage their expectations.
