Engineering Surveyor with Earthworks and LSS Knowledge Job Description

An Engineering Surveyor with Earthworks and Land Surveying Software (LSS) Knowledge is responsible for collecting and analysing data required for the planning, design, and construction of civil engineering projects, with a particular focus on earthworks. This role involves using various tools and technologies to measure land features and provide precise data for projects, ensuring that construction works are carried out accurately and efficiently. This role also involves the mentoring of inexperienced engineers, helping them develop a wide skills base.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Data Collection and Analysis:
    • Perform topographic surveys to gather data on land features, including elevations, contours, and locations of natural and man-made structures.
    • Conduct boundary surveys to determine property lines and assist in resolving disputes.
    • Use GPS, total stations, theodolites, and other surveying instruments to collect accurate data.
    • Experience of data collection via drones (Photography, Video and Survey)-Earthworks Planning and Design Support:

Collaborate with engineers, architects, and planners to provide essential data for earthworks design.

Prepare detailed maps, charts, and reports based on survey data and earthworks requirements.

Assist in the development of site plans and layouts, including grading and excavation plans.

Calculate volumes of cut and fill and prepare earthworks balance sheets.

  1. LSS (Land Surveying Software) Utilization:
    • Use LSS software for processing survey data, creating 3D models, and producing detailed reports.
    • Develop digital terrain models (DTMs) and perform volume calculations using LSS.
    • Create and manage project-specific databases within LSS.
    • Generate contour maps, sections, and profiles using LSS.
    • Ensure accurate integration of LSS data with other engineering software (e.g., AutoCAD).
  2. Construction Support:
    • Set out control points and benchmarks for construction projects, particularly earthworks.
    • Produce machine control models and files for plant to use.
    • Monitor construction progress to ensure compliance with design specifications, earthworks standards, and surveying standards.
    • Provide as-built surveys to document completed earthworks projects.
  3. Quality Assurance and Compliance:
    • Ensure all surveying activities comply with relevant legal, safety, and quality standards.
    • Maintain accurate records of survey data and project documentation.
    • Review and verify the accuracy of survey data, including measurements and calculations.
  4. Technology and Equipment Management:
    • Maintain and calibrate surveying instruments and equipment.
    • Stay updated with the latest surveying and earthworks technologies and methodologies.
    • Utilize surveying software for data processing and analysis.
  5. Team Collaboration and Communication:
    • Mentoring and supporting the engineering team.
    • Work closely with project teams, contractors, and clients to understand project requirements and deliver accurate results.
    • Communicate survey findings and provide technical support as needed.
    • Train and supervise junior surveyors and technicians.

Qualifications:

Experience:

Minimum of 4 years of experience in surveying or a related field.

Experience with civil engineering projects, particularly earthworks, is preferred.

Proficiency in using LSS software and AutoCAD
