£15.50 per hour (DOE)
Monday to Friday 8am – 4.30pm

Steel Cactus Recruitment are pleased to be working with our client; a specialist in the steel sector based in Sheffield S4. Due to business demand; our client has a requirement for an experienced Laser Operator; operating laser cutting machines, loading and unloading raw materials and finished parts, and ensuring all parts are cleaned post-cutting in addition to the following responsibilities:

• Operate laser cutting machines to cut materials according to specified dimensions and designs.
• Adjust machine settings to ensure precision and quality of cuts.
• Monitor the cutting process to prevent errors and ensure efficiency.
• Perform routine maintenance on laser cutting machines to ensure optimal performance.
• Measure parts to ensure compliance with requirements.
• Load raw materials, such as metal sheets or other materials, into the laser cutting machine.
• Unload finished parts from the machine, ensuring they are handled carefully to avoid damage.
• Organise and store raw materials and finished parts in designated areas.
• Keep accurate records of materials used and parts produced.
• Clean all parts post-cutting to remove any debris, ensuring they are ready for the next stage of production.
• Inspect parts for any defects or irregularities and report any issues to the supervisor.
• Maintain a clean and organised work area to ensure safety and efficiency.
• Use appropriate cleaning tools and solutions to ensure parts meet quality standards.
• Train in using SIGMA NESTING software to optimise the layout of parts to be cut from raw materials.
• Create efficient nesting plans to minimise waste and maximise material usage.
• Collaborate with the design team to ensure nesting plans meet production requirements and specifications.
• Continuously update and improve nesting strategies based on feedback and production needs.
• Troubleshoot and resolve any issues related to nesting software or processes.

Benefits

• Finishing at 3:30pm on Fridays
• Hourly rate paid weekly; overtime at 1.5x on weekdays/Saturday AM, 2x on Saturday PM/Sunday, and bank holidays (plus a day off).
• 23 days and bank holidays, plus an extra day each year after five years of service until reaching 26 days at most.
• Both parties contribute to company pension, starting automatically after 13 weeks. Employee 5% of total income, Company 3% of total income.
