Our Client is a build-to-print manufacturer specializing in the production of complex machined, treated, and assembled components. The company excels in creating airframe, wing, and landing gear detail parts, along with offering speed shop services for spares and AOG (Aircraft on Ground) requirements. Additionally, they provide an industry-leading thread rolling service, backed by a wide capability range and numerous customer approvals.

As a Senior/NPI Manufacturing Engineer, you will play a key role in developing and launching new aerospace components into production. Utilising APQP, you will identify and mitigate risks throughout the product development process, addressing potential challenges in both manufacturing and the supply chain.

Collaborating closely with the NPI Manager, CNC Programmers, production teams, and suppliers, you will ensure that manufacturing processes are efficient, reliable, and cost-effective. Your core responsibilities include driving process improvements, optimizing existing manufacturing processes, and ensuring that all products meet stringent regulatory and customer requirements. You will maintain high product quality standards by completing all relevant APQP elements, ensuring a seamless transition from development to production.

Responsibilities:

  • Risk Identification and Mitigation: Utilize APQP to identify and address potential risks during the product development process, including issues related to manufacturing and supply chain.
  • Engineering Change Management: Analyze Engineering Change Requests and oversee necessary follow-up actions.
  • Rework Routing: Determine and establish rework routings as needed.
  • Non-Conformance Investigation: Support the investigation of non-conformances and represent Engineering in Root Cause Analysis activities.
  • Collaboration: Work closely with CNC Programmers, production teams, and suppliers to optimize manufacturing processes and reduce production costs.
  • Process Improvement: Identify opportunities for process improvement and develop solutions to enhance efficiency, reduce waste, and improve product quality.
  • Process Validation & Control: Conduct process validations and establish controls to ensure product quality and compliance with regulatory and customer requirements.
  • Troubleshooting: Address and resolve issues in manufacturing processes, implementing improvements to boost efficiency and minimize waste.
  • Process Documentation: Develop and maintain comprehensive process documentation, including process maps, routings, and work instructions.
  • Technical Support & Training: Provide technical support and training to production personnel as required.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Participate in cross-functional teams to ensure the successful introduction of critical NPI (New Product Introduction) with minimal risk, leveraging APQP/FMEA methodologies.
  • Quotation and Contract Review Support: Offer technical support for quotation development and the contract review process as needed.

Skills & Experience:

  • Experience: Minimum of 3 years in a manufacturing environment, with a focus on aerospace.
  • Aerospace Manufacturing Expertise: Strong knowledge of aerospace manufacturing processes, materials, and components.
  • Process Design & Improvement: Proven experience in process design, optimization, and continuous improvement.
  • Quality Management: Familiarity with quality management systems, including ISO 9001 and AS9100 standards.
  • Problem-Solving & Collaboration: Excellent problem-solving abilities, with strong communication and collaboration skills.
  • Methodologies: In-depth understanding of APQP and FMEA methodologies.
  • Attention to Detail: A meticulous approach, with a commitment to delivering high-quality work.
  • Systems Knowledge: Proficient in ERP/MRP systems and CAD/CAM systems.
  • Lean Manufacturing: Familiar with 5S and lean principles, with the capability to apply them effectively in a manufacturing setting.
