We are excited to announce a fantastic opportunity for a Multi-Skilled Engineer to join our team at the Sedgefield site. This role is ideal for a skilled professional who is prepared to work a 24/7 shift pattern following a comprehensive two-week induction period.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform scheduled maintenance activities as outlined in the maintenance plan.
  • Respond promptly to breakdowns, carry out necessary repairs, and document all actions and follow-up requirements.
  • Provide detailed reports of all work activities on a daily or shift basis.
  • Proactively prevent equipment failures and enhance overall equipment performance by proposing and implementing improvements.
  • Deliver a service that meets agreed standards, minimizes downtime, and maintains effective communication with relevant team members.
  • Ensure all services comply with food packaging standards, maintaining high levels of housekeeping and personal hygiene.
  • Uphold and improve health and safety standards, ensuring a safe working environment by identifying, minimizing, and controlling risks.
  • Work closely with contractors to ensure they adhere to site rules, health and safety regulations, and food safety standards.
  • Participate in ongoing training to enhance skills and knowledge, ensuring continued effective support for front-line operations.
  • Train other team members as needed, ensuring they meet the required standards in their roles.
  • Identify performance issues and implement practical solutions using problem-solving tools and techniques.
  • Collaborate with relevant personnel to prioritize workload effectively for the benefit of site performance.
  • Adhere to deadlines and work under departmental and site KPIs to maximize business performance.

Candidate Profile:

  • Time-served with a mechanical or electrical bias at NVQ Level 3 (or equivalent); priority will be given to those educated to HNC standard (or equivalent).
  • Experience in a high-speed, high-volume manufacturing environment is preferred, especially in plastic packaging.
  • Skilled in preventative and predictive maintenance, problem-solving, and continuous improvement.
  • Proven ability in diagnostic fault finding under production pressure.
  • Experience with PLC control systems, including fault finding in servo drivers and RS Networks (Ethernet, DeviceNet communications) is beneficial.
  • Strong mechanical skills with essential electrical experience.
  • Competent in using PC equipment.
  • Familiarity with the AB Powerflex range of AC Inverters.
  • Knowledge of TPM principles, including 5S, is advantageous, as is experience with computerized maintenance management systems.
  • If electrically biased, 18th Edition certification is advantageous.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Compensation:

  • Starting salary: £18.50/hour (£40,040 annually), with potential increases to £19.00/hour (£41,496 annually) after a successful 3-month review, and to £19.78/hour (£43,199 annually) after 6 months or upon achieving the required standard.
  • Overtime paid at 1.25x the standard rate.
  • Salary is paid monthly, with a weekly option available if preferred.

Shift Pattern:

  • Post-induction, the shift pattern will be 3 on, 3 off, rotating between days (7 AM – 7 PM) and nights (7 PM – 7 AM).

Benefits:

  • 24 days of holiday per year, inclusive of bank holidays, prorated based on start date.
  • After 3 months: Auto-enrolment in the Royal London Pension (currently 5% employee & 3% employer contribution).
  • After 6 months: Health plan covering dental, optical, physiotherapy, and counseling services.
  • After 6 months: Life Assurance equal to 1x basic salary.
