Senior Piping Engineer

Key Objectives
• Working within a multi-discipline team to deliver a fully integrated
destruct/construct philosophy for a major plant equipment replacement project
• Site survey work and preparation of engineering deliverables and documentation to
facilitate planned works
• Review and approval of drawings and other design deliverables
• Engagement with project schedule and management of workscope/change control
• Based at the client’s site in Teesside as part of the project team

Main Activities (main day-to-day activities and the outputs of the role the individual
is expected to deliver)
• Review of client documentation including drawings with confirmation of validity
against current plant configuration
• Site surveys of existing pipework, pipe supports, and connected items
• Determination of piping tie-in points using basic process data, best practice,
client preference, and consideration of the resulting scope
• Development of enabling works strategy such as the location and design of
temporary pipe supports and restraints for safe removal/reinstatement of piping
• Review and approval of appropriate sketches/drawings/mark-ups to supplement
any gaps in client records
• Coordination of 3D CAD reference model development
• Provision of input to piping stress isometrics where required; liaison with pipe
stress team
• Marking of P&IDs allow for communication of scope boundaries with Process
• Piping material selection based on existing client Piping Specifications /
Installation / new equipment
• Pipe Support material selection based on existing installation / pipe stress
functional requirements / client standards
• Review and approval of piping material take-offs
• Attendance at internal and client progress meetings
• Provide justification for all elements of Piping design during client review or
challenge
• Management of emergent works and deviation from baseline scope using project
change control
• Development of piping scope of work document including details of
methodology, temporary works, construction, inspection and testing
requirements.
• Problem solving: Design / fabrication / installation
• Awareness and application of human factors in design
• Risk - People / Cost / Schedule / Operational

Qualifications / Experience
• Experience of site work, manual layout methods and surveying
• Knowledge of piping design codes and standards, both ASME and European
• Development of piping design and construction estimates and management of
work hour budget
• Experience of working within a multi-discipline team and understanding of the
necessary interactions required for successful project delivery
• Knowledge of AutoCAD 2D/3D, Aveva E3D, and similar drafting packages
• Knowledge of laser scanning techniques and development of 3D models and other
relevant innovative technologies within a design environment
• Awareness or some knowledge of specialist areas such as pipe stress analysis and
construction methods
• Development of layouts in the 3D workspace
• Detailed experience of P&IDs and layout/isometric piping drawings
• Site surveys and visual condition assessments
• Experience of Site H&S requirements, Code of conduct and sound ethics as
required by Professional bodies and employers
• Experience within a client facing role and/or chemical manufacturing
environment (desired)

Key Accountabilities
• Involvement and dialogue are expected throughout the design and construction
stages with the site team resolving any issues and ensuring completion as per
design intent.
• On-time delivery of in-scope project drawings and documents
• Management of piping design deliverable development and 3D model
• Preparation of scope of work documents to support project delivery
• Participation in both internal and client reviews
