We now seek an Assistant Design Manager to join us on a permanent, full-time basis to grow within the business.

The Role

As an Assistant Design Manager, you will assist in the development and delivery of construction projects from a design perspective.

Working closely with the lead design manager, you will support the planning and management of our Contractor Design Portions (CDPs), ensuring compliance between the latest client and subcontractor information and all statutory, legal and planning requirements.

You’ll assist in maintaining an accurate Information Required Schedule (IRS) and update the Design & Procurement Schedule (D&PS) to reflect construction activity, supporting the identification and mitigation of risk.

Additionally, you will:

- Support the completion of contract and project administration relating to our design responsibility.
- Assist with procurement procedures.
- Build appropriate relationships with clients, design teams and our supply chain.

About You

To be considered as an Assistant Design Manager, you will need to demonstrate:

- Qualifications appropriate to the role
- The ability to understand client requirements
- Broad technical knowledge of construction design and detail
- Good understanding of the design process and programming
- An understanding of managing people and process; including meeting management
- The ability to identify design shortfalls (i.e. information conflicts, scope gaps, buildability issues, statutory requirements, etc.)
- Working knowledge of planning procedures, building regulations, CDM Regulations, Listed building consents and other third-party requirements
- Awareness of design and document management packages such as Viewpoint, Autodesk, Revit, BIM Collab or equivalent.
- Previous support in writing accurate and detailed contractor’s proposals and reports
- Working knowledge of commercial implications of design change
- Experience of successfully working on projects of varying value, type and complexity
- Working knowledge of Walter Lilly’s market sectors and a general understanding of the complexities involved with such projects
- Working knowledge of construction
- Familiarity with commonly used provisions of the Standard Forms of Contracts and the amendments thereto
- Good communication and interpersonal skills
- Appropriate level of IT competency with the ability to utilise various design management platforms
- An understanding of how to manage design team and sub-contractors alike to the correct design / solution
- The ability to review and understand construction and pre-construction programmes
- The ability to understand own shortcomings in construction knowledge and ability to seek training and assistance to fill such gaps
