Role Overview: The Electrical Maintenance Engineering Manager is responsible for developing and managing the engineering team, ensuring the effective deployment of resources to handle machine breakdowns promptly while also overseeing planned maintenance activities and addressing emergent issues. This role requires close coordination with both engineering and operational management to ensure resource allocation is optimized, line availability is maintained, and schedules are met.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Health & Safety:

    • Contribute to the development and implementation of an Engineering Health & Safety management system.
    • Audit the application of engineering standards by both in-house staff and external contractors.
    • Promote and enforce safe working practices, challenging non-compliance and supporting risk assessments and task observations.
  2. Planned Maintenance & Breakdowns:

    • Oversee the electrical engineering resources to maintain, repair, and develop processing machinery and ancillary equipment in a safe and efficient manner to maximize uptime at optimal cost.
    • Work with PLC systems including Siemens, Mitsubishi, and Allen Bradley.
    • Handle AC/DC motors, converters, and inverters, and read schematics.
    • Monitor departmental performance against business goals, implementing corrective actions to meet annual targets.
    • Ensure detailed process documentation is maintained within the electrical maintenance system and appropriate records are kept to demonstrate compliance.
    • Ensure all legal, statutory, and policy inspections are completed across the facility.
    • Manage the procurement of replacement parts and ensure spares are adequately stocked through the Pirana stock control system to minimize downtime.
  3. Training & Resource Development:

    • Ensure that engineers receive the necessary training for their roles, including policy documents and safe working procedures.
    • Identify and address skill development needs, succession planning, and compliance with business policies.
  4. Continuous Improvement:

    • Support the Trio teams in planning and delivering engineering development projects aimed at improving plant operational performance and asset integrity.
  5. Management:

    • Maintain and communicate key performance indicators within the engineering function and the broader business as appropriate.
    • Manage the engineering resources to ensure adequate coverage for production shifts and the achievement of business objectives.

Vision & Context: The primary challenge of this role is to manage the engineering resources across the facility while remaining an active, hands-on leader. By developing your team and coordinating with the broader engineering function, you will work to minimize process breakdowns through effective planned maintenance and continuous improvement initiatives.

Required Knowledge, Skills & Competencies:

  • In-depth knowledge of process facilities, materials/products, customer quality requirements, and performance targets.
  • Familiarity with business systems such as PIRANA, STRATIX, and SAP.
  • Expertise in Contractor Control Processes and legislative standards (PUWER, LOLER, etc.).
  • Proficiency in continuous improvement techniques and planned maintenance strategies.

Skills:

  • A university degree or completed apprenticeship in an appropriate engineering discipline (NVQ Level 3).
  • Strong knowledge of statistical and problem-solving techniques.
  • Computer literacy with effective oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to apply continuous improvement techniques effectively.
