An exciting start-up working on sustainable technologies is currently recruiting for a Mechanical Fitter to join its team in Oxford on a permanent basis. As Mechanical Fitter you will play a critical role in building new systems at their development HQ in North Oxford – supporting with the installation and build of industrial plants.

The Industrial Pipe Fitter will play a critical role in building new systems at the development unit and supporting their installation and commissioning at customer sites.

Ideal candidates will be experienced pipe fitters or mechanical engineers with hands-on skills in building and installing industrial systems. The work involves tasks such as installing plastic tanks, pump skids, pipe fitting, solvent welding, and working with electrofusion polyethylene fittings and PE flexible pipes within a production environment. You will collaborate with an experienced engineering team in both building and installing these systems.

Mechanical Fitter responsibilities

  • Installing and working on industrial equipment, including pipes, valves, tanks, and mechanical structures, both indoors and outdoors.
  • Working independently and as part of a wider team, interpreting engineering drawings and instructions to physically build new systems.
  • Using workshop equipment for system assembly.
  • Mechanical or process engineering qualification.
  • Working at customer sites, including preparing Risk Assessment and Method Statements (RAMS) and meeting other site-specific requirements.
  • Respond promptly to escalations and requests for information.

Mechanical Fitter requirements

  • Skilled hands-on fitter with practical experience in pipe fitting within an industrial environment (experience in the food industry is a plus) as well as mechanical and electrical assembly.
  • Positive attitude with a strong drive to achieve results.
  • Proactive and innovative, capable of developing creative solutions to on-site engineering challenges.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to build relationships with colleagues and customers.
  • Comfortable working at heights (10-12 meters via scissor lift).

Personal Attributes

  • Technically trained and practical engineer capable of reading engineering drawings and following instructions.
  • Team player, able to collaborate effectively with colleagues, customers, and subcontractors.
  • Organized, with strong time management and task prioritization skills.
  • Enthusiastic, self-motivated, and flexible about working hours, as installations may occur on weekends or during unsocial hours.
  • Valid UK Driving Licence.
  • Previous experience in equipment installation and commissioning, particularly in the food manufacturing industry, is advantageous but not essential.

£40,000-£45,000 per annum, Discretionary annual bonus of 5% of salary, Contributory salary sacrifice pension scheme up to 5% of salary, Death in service benefit of 4x base salary.
