Are you passionate about supporting young learners with Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) needs? GSL Education is looking for a dedicated SEMH Teaching Assistant Primary to join a vibrant, co-educational Primary School in Newcastle. As an SEMH Teaching Assistant Primary, you will play a crucial role in supporting students in Key Stage 1 (KS1) and Key Stage 2 (KS2), helping them to achieve their full potential.

The Role:

As an Experienced SEMH Primary Teaching Assistant - Primary, you will be instrumental in creating a supportive and inclusive learning environment for students with social, emotional, and mental health challenges. Your empathy, patience, and dedication will help these young learners thrive both academically and personally.

As an SEMH Teaching Assistant - Primary, You will –

  • Assist class teachers in conducting lessons and managing the classroom environment.
  • Support students with SEMH needs, providing tailored assistance to help them overcome challenges.
  • Implement strategies to promote positive behaviour and social interaction.
  • Monitor and record student progress, reporting any concerns to the relevant staff.
  • Foster a safe and inclusive learning environment in line with the school’s behaviour management policy.
  • Participate in team meetings and contribute to the planning and review of student support plans.
  • Collaborate with colleagues to develop and implement effective support strategies.

As a Successful SEMH Teaching Assistant – Primary, will need –

  • A recent degree or specializations in special education, psychology, social work or a related field that is particularly relevant for SEMH teaching.
  • Previous experience as a Teaching Assistant, particularly with SEMH students, is highly preferred.
  • Strong understanding of SEMH challenges and effective support strategies.
  • Patience, empathy, and a genuine interest in supporting young learners.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills to engage effectively with students, teachers, and parents.
