Senior Optical Design Engineer

Lynx Recruitment is working with a fibre optics specialist to recruit for an exceptional Senior Optical Design Engineer, to join their expanding fibre optics R&D department in Torquay.

This is an exciting opportunity to lead a crucial area of the team's work, progressing optical amplifier designs for free space optical communication.

Key Responsibilities:

• Lead the development efforts for optical amplifier subsystems, including 100W C-band amplifiers and high-performance low noise amplifiers
• Navigate and design in an area with complex, interdependent technical challenges
• Demonstrate sound technical judgement to balance project risks and ensure successful outcomes
• Work self-sufficiently to progress projects and troubleshoot problems with minimal supervision
• Collaborate within a multidisciplinary team of optical, mechanical, and electrical engineers
• Write in a clear, compelling manner for customers and funding applications
• Provide strong technical leadership to grow the team
• Ensure compliance with company health, safety, and environmental requirements

Requirements:

• In-depth knowledge of optical fibre lasers, fibre amplifiers, and ideally, non-linear fibre-optics
• BSc in an engineering discipline or physics, with a PhD highly desirable
• Hands-on experience in the design and test of optical systems
• Ability to communicate technical information effectively, both verbally and in writing
• Proven track record of leading teams and managing complex projects
