Role Purpose 
  • In this role you will be responsible for the highest standards of fire & building safety, ensuring that the Local Authority meets the requirements of all Fire & Building Safety legislation and they will respond to technical queries from external agencies.
  • This senior role has significant responsibilities for a wide range of fire and building safety initiatives many of which have considerable impact on the Council. The postholder is expected to provide expert advice to the Council and other internal colleagues.



Responsibilities 
  • To ensure LBTH complies with all relevant Fire Safety legislation and BS/EN standards.
  • Provide expert technical advice on the application and interpretation of fire safety guidance.
  • Carryout onsite inspections identifying defects.
  • Work with external consultant fire engineers to complete specialist surveys such as FRAEW, intrusive FRAs etc.
  • Work closely with colleagues to ensure all Fire Safety risks are considered and eliminated when considering new projects and contract reviews.
  • Review and evaluate fire safety design submissions for suitability and sufficiency and develop recommendations to resolve any identified deficiencies.
  • Where necessary audit and help evaluate Fire Risk Assessments, Fire Policies and Safety Plans from contractors to ensure they are reducing the risk of fire as far as is reasonably possible.
  • Write specifications for remedial works and manage those works through to completion. To provide technical advice relating to fire and building safety to other colleagues in relation to capital projects.


Requirements 
  • Formal technical qualification in Fire Safety or relevant substantial experience min 5 years.
  • Minimum 5 years as a Building Surveyor of which fire safety is at least 3.
  • Experience of managing fire related complex remedial projects in housing environment.
  • Significant knowledge of Building Safety.
  • Experience of managing fire remediation projects and writing technical specifications.
  • Experience of involving residents in decision making.
  • Experience as a general building surveyor.
  • Comprehensive working knowledge of fire safety standards in Housing.
  • Comprehensive technical knowledge of building construction across a wide range of asset archetypes including high rise buildings.
  • Experience of managing compliance activities and strong broad knowledge of compliance in relation to Housing.
  • Passive fire stoppinq certification, inspector or a Diploma.
  • Substantial experience in a similar role, regarding fire related project management, desiqn, servicinq, repair or installation.
  • Experience of working with tenants and leaseholders and representative groups, attendinq meetinqs both in and out of hours.
  • This role will require you to obtain an Basic satisfactory clearance from the Disclosure and Barring Service.


Contract 
  • Initial 6 month ongoing contract with the opportunity to extend 
  • PAYE via Umbrella Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm (2/3 days on-site).
