Role: QA/QC Inspector
Duration: 12 months
IR35 Status: Outside IR35
Location:
- Primarily operating in the Midlands, with travel to supplier sites across North West, North East, and South Wales as required. Travel and accommodation will be provided when necessary.
Key Responsibilities:
- Quality Control and Inspection Services: Provide independent quality control and weld inspection services across a range of nuclear mechanical disciplines at vendors' or other participating entities' premises.
- Inspection at Operating Sites and Vendors: Deliver independent inspection and quality control services at operating sites and vendors related to new equipment in manufacture, fabrication, and construction.
- Documentation Review: Conduct reviews of fabrication/manufacturing documentation, including quality plans, ITPs, welding procedures, NDE procedures, and LTQRs, ensuring they meet all required standards.
- Relationship Management: Develop and maintain excellent relationships with both internal and external customers to ensure smooth inspection processes.
- Compliance Monitoring: Ensure all inspections comply with relevant nuclear and conventional codes and standards, particularly those related to pressure equipment and systems (e.g., EN13445, EN13480, PD5500, ASME VIII).
- Audit and Reporting: Prepare detailed inspection reports and non-conformance reports. Provide recommendations for corrective actions and follow up on their implementation.
- Proactive Engagement: Demonstrate a proactive, self-motivated approach to both technical and non-technical aspects of the role, actively participating in technical discussions and negotiations.
Knowledge and Skills:
- Industry Knowledge: Good working knowledge of inspection requirements within the nuclear industry, or transferable experience from other high-hazard industries.
- Codes and Standards: Experience or the ability to quickly learn nuclear and conventional codes and standards relating to pressure equipment, welding, and NDE standards.
- Technical Skills: Strong background in the inspection of welded fabrications and manufactured equipment for nuclear and conventional power generation applications.
- Certifications:
- Essential: CSWIP 3.1 or above, with certifications in RAD, MPI, and DPI.
- Preferred: UT certification (priority for candidates with this qualification).
- Communication: Strong technical writing and communication skills, with a proven ability to manage and influence a range of stakeholders.
- Customer Quality Requirements: Good working knowledge of customer quality requirements and manufacturing techniques and processes.
- Experience: Minimum of 2 years' experience in inspecting welded fabrications/manufactured equipment in nuclear or similar high-hazard industries.
Additional Information:
- Work Environment: This role involves frequent travel to different vendor sites, often with one week's notice of locations, primarily within the Midlands.
- Physical Requirements: The role may involve working in industrial environments, including workshops and manufacturing plants, with potential exposure to confined or elevated spaces.
