Job Title: Windows Server Administrator

Location: Watford, 5 days on site - to be reduced to 3 days on site

Salary: £240-£270 per day, Inside IR35

Job Type: Full-Time, 6-Month initial contract

Hours: 37.5 hours per week, including participation in an out-of-hours support rota

Job Purpose:

As a Windows Server Specialist, you are responsible for implementing, supporting, and maintaining the organization's server and storage infrastructure. The role ensures secure, resilient, and highly available services that support core business functions. You will collaborate with the Digital team on the development and enhancement of both existing and new systems and infrastructure, while actively contributing to digital projects and cybersecurity initiatives.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Server Support: Lead in providing advanced technical support for Windows servers, while also supporting Linux Server environments.
  • VMware & Storage Management: Provide expert guidance on VMware, VMware Horizon, and manage SAN and NAS storage systems.
  • Disaster Recovery: Develop and maintain disaster recovery plans for server and storage infrastructure.
  • Backup Management: Lead backup processes for all infrastructure systems, including specialized backups (e.g., databases).
  • Automation & Scripting: Automate tasks using scripting languages (e.g., Bash, Python, PowerShell), and maintain centralized script documentation.
  • Documentation: Maintain comprehensive documentation of all server and storage systems, including security controls, applications, and dependencies. Provide detailed lists of supported services.
  • Digital Projects: Provide technical support and project management for digital projects, including designing, implementing, and testing new server and storage infrastructure.

Qualifications & Experience:

  • Extensive experience in managing Windows servers and working knowledge of Linux server environments.
  • Proficiency in VMware, VMware Horizon, SAN, and NAS storage systems.
  • Strong experience in disaster recovery planning and backup management.
  • Proven ability to automate tasks using scripting languages (e.g., Bash, Python, PowerShell).
  • Familiarity with ITIL frameworks and best practices.
  • Excellent documentation skills and attention to detail.
  • Strong problem-solving abilities and the capability to work effectively in a team-oriented environment.
  • Participation in an out-of-hours support rota, providing 24x7 infrastructure and applications support.
