We are urgently seeking a skilled Anaerobic Digestion (AD) Operator to join our client’s team at Allerton Waste Recovery Park in Knaresborough.
 
The AD Operator will be hands-on, operating machinery, managing feedstock (organic waste) throughout the process, and assisting with plant maintenance, general upkeep, and repairs. The role also involves promoting good working practices and maintaining positive relations with staff, the local community, and regulatory bodies.
 
Location: Allerton Waste Recovery Park, Knaresborough, HG5
 
Contract: 3 Months Initially, with Potential to Go Permanent
 
Working Hours:
Week 1: 6:00 AM - 2:00 PM
Week 2: 2:00 PM - 10:00 PM
 
Pay Rate: £17.95 per hour
 
 
Key Responsibilities:
 
  • Safely and efficiently operate the anaerobic digestion plant during steady-state, startup, shutdown, and emergency situations as directed by the Operations Manager.
  • Ensure daily compliance with all aspects of the Environmental Permit, reporting any non-compliance or incidents to the Operations Manager.
  • Work within the company’s Health & Safety, Quality, and Environmental System and adhere to all relevant legislation.
  • Act as a Senior Authorised Person under safety rules, applying isolation, locks, and safety tags, and preparing and issuing safety documents.
  • Fulfil responsibilities as defined in the company’s Safety Rules and associated procedures.
  • Contribute to the team effort, fostering team spirit and supporting colleagues.
  • Conduct routine plant inspections and adjustments, collect and record plant data, and ensure the plant is ready for service after maintenance or shutdown.
  • Respond to first line and breakdown maintenance requirements, assisting maintenance teams as needed.
  • Participate in department training and development.
  • Write and amend site operational procedures, implementing changes and improvements as needed.
  • Conduct simple analyses to ensure the plant is fully optimized.
  • Perform shift logging, quality defect reporting, and review operational work specifications.
  • Safely operate a Counterbalance Forklift Truck, front-load mechanical shovel, and grab crane (training will be provided to suitable candidates).
  • Load fermenter/dry digester with organic material.
  • Assist in replacing pumps, shafts, and other components.
  • Maximize biogas yields from fermenters and electricity production from engines.
  • Manage CLO (Compost-like Output) to ensure compliance with ABPR (Animal By-Product Regulations).
  • Handle the out loading of CLO to various off takers.
 
Qualifications:
  • Experience working with Anaerobic Digestion, including a solid level of practical operational/maintenance experience and knowledge.
  • A strong understanding of all HSE (Health, Safety, and Environmental) aspects, with IOSH Managing Safely preferred.
  • Front-end loader/shovel license.
