Structural Design Engineer

This challenging and exciting opportunity requires an individual with a strong technical background and demonstrable experience in the design of projects within the structural engineering, retaining walls, RC Frames and steel or concrete structure sectors. The successful individual must be within commutable distance from Bolton, Greater Manchester to be able to work part of the week in the office, and partly at home.

Overview

Due to continued expansion, an abundant pipeline of works, and the recent award of a number of long term - major contracts, our client is now looking to appoint a Structural Design Engineer. You will be responsible for ensuring technical design excellence and governance over design pertaining to all work winning and contract technical issues for the company. You will provide guidance to other members of the team and Directors with regards to design activity.

The Role

  • Managing the production of designs to ensure that the needs of the work winning and operational teams are met in a timely manner, in order to ultimately meet the requirements of clients
  • Manage and advise on all structural, sheet, concrete and RC strictures designs
  • Provide technical support for the estimating and contracts delivery teams with current or potential clients for new works or live contracts
  • Ensure you play an active part in keeping appropriately motivated to deliver high quality design solutions for the business and its clients
  • To challenge, review and approve designs, and be proactive to identify potential to reduce risk and improve efficiency wherever possible
  • Ensure that designs adhere to relevant Eurocodes and company policies or business objectives, and the compliance to legal requirements and best practice procedures

The Person

  • You will possess up to date technical knowledge of structural engineering industry design best practice, with experience in producing designs relating to all types of the aforementioned disciplines and materials  
  • You will be proficient in routine and complex design calculations
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills are required, coupled with an ability to form effective relationships with all stakeholders
  • Client centric and flexible in your approach, you will possess the strategic and creative insight to understand the full range of opportunities contained within tenders
  • Possess hands on experience of leading the technical design aspects of tenders
