Health and Safety Advisor

Contract - 6 months Plus

Purpose
The H&S Advisor will support the delivery of the business and client project H&S requirements and H&S strategy to provide targeted and pro-active H&S support for the National Grid Project(s).

• NEBOSH General Certificate (minimum)
• Member of IOSH.
The following qualities/experience are desirable:
• NEBOSH Construction Certificate
• Experience of development and delivery of HSE training
• Additional relevant skills and qualifications in any technical area
• Experience in highly regulated industries (power generation, pharma, process, nuclear, etc)
• Civils construction knowledge / experience
• Working towards CMIOSH.
Key Responsibilities
• Assist the project management teams in the implementation of client and Project H&S requirements and objectives
• Support the Project delivery teams on planning and implementation of the client H&S Management system, strategy and objectives
• Assist the project management teams in the development of pre-construction H&S documentation
• Provide H&S support and advice to the projects to ensure a structured risk based approach
• Conduct site audits and inspections and ensure these are also undertaken by the project management team and supervision
• Liaise with customer H&S representatives and attend meetings/forums as required
• Ensure, assist and support the investigation of accidents, incidents and near miss events to determine route causes and preventative measures to prevent re-occurrence
• Facilitate H&S specific training and awareness programmes
• Assist and/or lead (where required) external H&S audits
• Provide input to the development of the following
• H&S Management Systems, Processes and 45001 accreditation
• External award programmes e.g RoSPA, ECIA etc.
Skills/Knowledge
Essential Skills
• In depth knowledge of current Health and Safety legislation
• Knowledge of insurance legislation and practice
• Understanding of construction industry and construction processes
• Familiarity with QA systems and compliance.
Desirable Skills
• Excellent written, verbal, negotiating and influencing skills to enable effective communication at all levels within the organisation, with clients and specialist advisors
• Familiarity with National Generator terms, processes and procedures.
Qualifications
• You will hold a current NEBOSH general certificate as a minimum
• You will be able to demonstrate a proven track record of providing an excellent Health and Safety service for an organisation operating within one or more of the following industries power generation, nuclear, petrochemical or utilities
• You will possess excellent communication, interpersonal, organisational, professional and personal presentation skills when liaising with Directors, senior managers, clients, external agencies employees and sub-contractors.
