A leading and expanding FMCG Food Manufacturer based South Manchester is currently recruiting for a Technical Manager to join their team. The Technical Manager will lead a team through a growth and investment period and be responsible for ensuring the successful management of the Quality and Technical function including food safety, legal compliance, relevant quality related standards and product specification delivery.

This role will require former experience with meat manufacturing (chilled, frozen, fresh or component i.e. sandwich filling, Ready meals).

Technical Manager responsibilities include:

  • Focus on food safety and quality standards on site ensuring compliance.
  • Liaise with Customers on any technical related issues and also play an active part in all customer visits representing the business at times in a professional and ethical manner.
  • Develop the technical team in subject matter expertise and knowledge.
  • Own and drive a technical improvement plan for the site.
  • Play an active part as member of the site senior team including board meetings
  • Ensure the delivery of product for sale within specification. From both a food safety and quality perspective.
  • Manage relevant quality standards, e.g. HACCP to ensure food safety, statutory & Company standards are maintained.
  • Produce production/working specifications as required and identify and record any product and or service quality problems
  • Ensure suitable product traceability records are maintained throughout the supply chain and maintaining a product recall system.
  • Ensure the necessary product testing is completed on time (including Micro / Swabs / allergen / speciation analysis etc.), maintaining suitable records & trends and communicating non-conformances appropriately and conducting root cause analysis reports.
  • Ensure supplier audits based on risk analysis are completed.
  • Work directly with production supervisors/managers and prepare regular management reports and trend analysis.
  • Ensure pest control visits take place and ensure agreed recommendations of the pest control company are implemented.
  • Communicate technical information in a way that meets the needs of the target audience.
  • Support Product development & NPD function including line trials through to factory production.
  • Record all customer complaints & delegate to appropriate dept in a timely and effective manner and provide feedback to management team.
  • Support staff on queries regarding shelf life, quality, nutritional information and allergens.
  • Co- ordinate external audits/visits to ensure positive outcome e.g. Liaise with external bodies in relation to food safety issues e.g. DEARA, EHO, Trading Standards.
  • Produce product/material/ingredient specifications as required.
  • Develop new approaches or technologies in the area of technical to ensure continuous improvement.
  • Co-ordinate any disciplinary and Grievance matters.
  • Conduct disciplinary investigations & disciplinary & grievance hearings as required.
  • Observe, act and immediately report any issues that may pose a threat to a safe working environment.
  • Manage performance of Technical Team members, setting goals and objectives and measuring outcomes.
  • Successful hosting and co-ordination of all major audits and customer technical visits to site.
  • Develop and present performance indicators for the technical function on a daily, weekly & monthly basis.
  • Ensure successful completion of the annual BRC audit

You will ideally be a degree qualified / equivalent Technical Manager with experience working including a meat manufacturing environment.
