Your new role

Our University client is keen to onboard an IT Trainer as part of their Digital Skills and Development team.
As the IT Trainer, you will support the implementation of digital capability initiatives across academic schools and/or professional SBUs. You will work in close collaboration with team members to assist in the design and delivery of effective programmes of digital skills development opportunities, aimed at staff and students.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Support the execution of the Digital Capabilities Strategy including the design and delivery of training sessions (in person and online) for staff and student audiences.
  • Support the digital capabilities needs assessment activities, including the promotion of the Jisc Discovery Tool, analysis of the Jisc Digital Experience Insights Survey results, consultations with SBUs and the analysis of training and development feedback.
  • Design, create, customise and maintain instructional guidance materials and other resources in a variety of accessible formats.
  • Research, identify and evaluate the effectiveness of technologies and resources being considered as part of the university's digital skills development offering to ensure they are of a high quality and are fit for purpose.
  • Identify new and creative ways to leverage freely available software, personal devices and University provisioned technologies in order to ensure opportunities for skills development are inclusive and accessible.
  • Respond to support and advice requests from University colleagues regarding their personal digital skills development needs, and the needs of those in their schools/departments.
  • Coordinate with colleagues across the University to provide access to a pool of Technology Mentors who can run workshops, support events and provide 1:1 support.
  • Provide technical and pedagogical support for the design and development of blended and flexible learning experiences that are both engaging and effective.
  • Management of administration and digital badging/credential systems to validate skills development and provide recognition.


What you'll need to succeed

  • Substantial proven experience in supporting the design and delivery of live synchronous and/or in-person training sessions, across one or more areas of digital skills development to small and large audiences
  • Substantial proven experience in supporting the development of online self-study course materials that are high in quality, engaging and effective
  • Substantial proven experience in authoring instructional guidance in a variety of media formats that are clearly presented and digitally accessible.
  • Experience in producing learning resources, using creative tools like iSpring, Captivate and Adobe Creative Suite.
  • Experience in identifying and evaluating freely available learning tools and resources for their relevance and suitability to identified audiences.
  • Experience in using digital badging/credentials to recognise skills development, provide motivation and to provide validation

Knowledge & Ability:

  • Jisc Digital Capabilities Framework and/or other similar frameworks and tools used to assess development needs.
  • Knowledge and application of pedagogies appropriate for blended and flexible approaches to learning and teaching.
  • Knowledge of interaction design principles, including digital accessibility standards.
  • Knowledge of copyright laws and General Data Protection Regulation and their application in the HE sector.
  • The ability to identify and leverage available technologies, including those that are common in higher education institutions, the workplace or the home environment (Microsoft, Google, Apple, Android) into digital skills development opportunities.
