Import Co-Ordinator
 We are recruiting an experienced import coordinator for a distribution company who are looking to strengthen their team. You’ll be responsible for overseeing and managing the import process which includes ensuring compliance with local and international import regulations, coordinating with suppliers and logistics partners, and managing documentation to ensure timely and cost-effective delivery of goods. You’ll also play a key role in optimizing import operations, reducing costs, and ensuring that goods arrive in a timely manner to support business operations.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Import Operations Management:
    • Manage the end-to-end process of importing goods, including liaising with suppliers, freight forwarders, customs brokers, and other stakeholders to ensure smooth import operations.
    • Track and monitor shipments, ensuring goods are delivered on time and within budget.
    • Coordinate with internal departments (e.g., procurement, sales, and inventory) to align import schedules with business needs.
  2. Documentation and Compliance:
    • Prepare and review import documentation such as commercial invoices, bills of lading, certificates of origin, packing lists, and customs declarations.
    • Ensure full compliance with customs regulations, trade laws, and company policies related to imports.
    • Maintain accurate records of all import activities for audit and reporting purposes.
  3. Cost Control and Optimization:
    • Negotiate shipping rates and terms with freight forwarders and carriers to ensure cost-effective solutions.
    • Monitor and control import-related costs, such as tariffs, duties, and transportation expenses, and explore opportunities for cost-saving initiatives.
    • Work to optimize import processes and identify potential areas for improvement.
  4. Customs and Regulatory Coordination:
    • Coordinate with customs authorities and ensure timely and accurate customs clearance of goods.
    • Stay up-to-date with changes in international trade regulations, tariffs, and duties, and advise the company on any necessary adjustments.
    • Handle and resolve issues related to customs inspections, holds, or delays.
  5. Supplier and Vendor Relationships:
    • Build and maintain strong relationships with international suppliers, freight forwarders, and other logistics partners.
    • Address and resolve any issues related to supplier performance, delivery delays, or quality of imported goods.

What do you need?

We are looking for 3 years minimum importing experience and a strong understanding of international trade regulations, incoterms, customs processes, import documentation as well as sound knowledge of HS codes, tariffs, and duties. It goes without saying you have Excellent organizational and time management skills and are highly proficient in logistics software and MS Office.
