The Opportunity
Given recent and forecasted project growth, an exciting opportunity has arisen to have the chance of joining a well-established UK engineering business located in Clyde as an experienced Civil/Structural Engineer. As the Civil/Structural Engineer you will be working as part of a multi-disciplinary engineering team where the primary purpose of the role is to directly support a major defence project.

This role has been deemed inside of IR35.

Your duties and responsibilities will be
  • As a Civil Engineer, you will be Authoring, development, assessment, maintenance and management of the Infrastructure Design Substantiation documents.
  • Authoring, development, assessment, maintenance and management of design changes/concessions.
  • Presentation of the clients substantiations, to ‘Due Process’ nuclear safety committees.
  • Production and development of Examination, Inspection, Maintenance & Testing (EIMT) Schedule, operating procedures and results to satisfy design requirements and safety case through life.
  • Producing/assessing Periodic Review of Safety reports.
  • Providing advice and direction to internal and external stakeholders.
  • Production of Independent Technical Review (ITA)/Independent Peer Review (IPR).
  • Use a combination of general and specialist engineering knowledge and understanding to apply existing and emerging technology.
  • Apply appropriate theoretical and practical methods to design, develop, manufacture, construct, commission, operate, maintain, decommission and re-cycle engineering processes, systems, services and products in a nuclear/high risk environment.
  • Producing robust technical justification to allow for relevant civil/structural design modifications to be authorised within a high hazard industry.
You will have the following qualifications & experience
  • Proven experience in the design assessment of steelwork structures to withstand dynamic loads including;
    • Earthquake motions
    • Blast
    • Wind
    • Rain
    • Snow loading
  • Experience working on steelwork marine structures and jetties would be ideal.
  • Experience of producing robust technical justification to allow for relevant structural design modifications to be authorised within a high hazard industry.
  • Apply appropriate theoretical and practical methods to design, develop, manufacture, construct, commission, operate, maintain, decommission and re-cycle engineering processes, systems, services and products in a nuclear/high risk environment.
  • Use a combination of general and specialist engineering knowledge and understanding to apply existing and emerging technology.
  • Structural Engineering degree.
  • Incorporated engineer (or equivalent experience).
  • All candidates must be willing and able to attain the required level of security clearance needed for the assignment.
It’s great if you also have the following
  • Experience working in a nuclear environment.
  • Familiarity with safety case development techniques e.g. HAZID/HAZOP studies.
  • Chartered engineer (or equivalent experience).
