We are recruiting for an Assistant Quantity Surveyor. Firstly, and importantly, you'll be joining a welcoming and supportive team of experienced engineers who are passionate about supporting each other and our customers. The core business works on an exciting range of HV projects renewable energy ICP and EPC projects, transmission & distribution commissioning projects and large-scale railway electrification projects. The Assistant Quantity Surveyors role’s purpose is to own the commercial management of  projects, working closely with project managers and design managers to ensure successful delivery of projects on time and to budget. This role supports with the control of both internal and external commercial aspects of projects across a range of contractual arrangements.

Assistant Quantity Surveyor Responsibilities:

As a Assistant Quantity Surveyor you will be involved in all aspects of commercial delivery across a wide range of projects. Reporting to the Head of Commercial, you will;

  • Be the commercial lead on a project to maximize our margin, reduce cost and increase timely cash collection.
  • Assist in all processes required to safely deliver our works whilst maintaining compliance to company procedures and policies.
  • Take responsibility for accepting budget & tender data from successful tenders into the Company accounting/Reporting System.
  • Take responsibility within the Commercial Department and Project Team with the preparation of the monthly project reports from the Company accounting/Reporting System.
  • Take responsibility for the preparation of the monthly Applications and Invoicing to ensure submission in a timely manner of an accurate document aimed at maximizing the company’s financial position.
  • Take responsibility for notifying your client early of any increased project value or delay to project completion.
  • Meet with your client’s commercial representative on a monthly basis to discuss certificates.
  • Take responsibility for the collection of cash and pursuit of certificates from clients in a timely manner, in order to maximize the company’s cash flow position.
  • Take responsibility for ensuring inputting of Applications and invoices (recording accurately) onto the company accounts system including payment certificates.
  • Take responsibility for the accuracy in producing accurate cash flow forecasts weekly.
  • Take responsibility for raising PO requisitions, GRN and Off Hiring of plant equipment on the company accounting system (where necessary) in order to ensure accurate cost information on projects.
  • Take responsibility for ensuring inputting of Sub-Contractor Certificates on the company accounting system and ensuring the accuracy of information being recorded.
  • Take responsibility for ensuring Sub-Contracts are administered correctly, and to the benefit of the company at all times.
  • Take responsibility for the project correspondence and any potential time barring, also make the Project Manager aware of contentious project correspondence.
  • Actively support the bidding team in the estimating, tendering and planning of new projects.
  • Take responsibility for identifying and recording change control opportunities together with inputting change control items to the company accounting system.
  • Take responsibility for the provision of and copying substantiation for project change and/or costs.
  • Meet with your client on a monthly basis to discuss agreement and levels of substantiation required to close out change control items.
  • Escalate at an early stage where clients are being obstructive toward agreeing any change control issues.
  • Take responsibility for the accuracy and timely manner with administration of the Company accounting/Reporting system.

What you will need to be successful:

  • Energetic, positive person with a wish to solve problems, comply with procedures and develop their knowledge and understanding.
  • Preferably educated to degree level in a relevant quantity surveying/commercial management discipline.
  • Proven record of commercial role within live construction projects.
  • Sound contract knowledge and experience interpreting contract documents and advising operations teams on best practice and legal requirements.
  • Good IT literacy and experience using the Microsoft Office suite.
  • Good organization and record-keeping.
  • Good communicator and the ability and desire to challenge ways of thinking where it suits the business.
