This Risk & Assurance Advisor position will report to the Risk & Assurance manager and will work within the human resources directorate based in our London office. You will be a permanent employee.

You will attract a salary depending on your level of experience and a bonus of 7.5%. This role can also offer blended working after probationary period (6 months) - 3 days in the office and 2 remote

This position is ideal for an experienced, qualified auditor or risk and assurance advisor looking to use their experience within a supportive and dynamic environment. As a Risk & Assurance Advisor at UK Power Networks, you will help ensure the integrity and effectiveness of our risk management and assurance processes. You will gain broad exposure across the entire organisation, contributing to our status as a high-performing Distribution Network Operator.

UK Power Networks is a frontier performer in our sector in the core areas of safety, customer service, reliability, and resilience. We are a critical part of ensuring the transition to Net Zero, in addition to entering a new regulated price control period. We are moving away from traditional methods of simply investing to build a physical network to building a smarter, more flexible, and efficient energy system.

The Risk & Assurance team is a trusted and respected group of professionals with diverse backgrounds, covering Internal Audit, Enterprise Risk, Regulatory Compliance, and Fraud Investigations. The Internal Audit team works with the business to provide independent assurance over the effectiveness of UK Power Networks' internal control environment. We are a catalyst for change, helping the business aim to improve its control environment and performance. We use the latest Data Analytics tools and methodologies in our assurance reviews to provide enhanced assurance and valuable insights.

Scope and Principal Requirements

This autonomous role offers a unique opportunity for a motivated professional to influence and shape the future of risk management within a dynamic, regulated industry. You will ensure the UK's transition to Net Zero by improving and establishing the latest assurance techniques.

  • Leadership: Lead a portfolio of diverse internal audit assignments, ensuring the highest standards of quality and integrity. You will provide assurance over all risks faced by the organisation.

  • Partner Engagement: Build relationships with partners at all levels, including Executive leadership and external partners. You will help drive improvements.

  • Advisory Role: Use your expertise to advise the business on risk management practices, ensuring that risks are identified, avoided, and managed according to our vision and goals.

  • Collaboration: Work with the wider Risk & Assurance team to implement opportunities for integrated assurance, using the latest data analytics tools to provide enhanced insights and value.

  • Continuous Improvement: Apply your experience, knowledge to produce recommendations that lead to tangible, meaningful and measurable results.

Essential experience:

  • A relevant degree in Finance, Accounting, Business, or a related field, or an assurance/audit/compliance qualification (e.g., CIA, ACCA, CIMA).

  • Experience in internal audit or a related assurance function.

  • Experience with internal control frameworks and risk management principles.

  • Experience building and maintaining relationships with senior leadership.

  • Lead others to solve complex issues across a functional organisation, and an emphasis on using data to create solutions.

  • Write accurate, concise and impactful audit reports and you will discuss sensitive topics

Advantageous experience:

  • Experience in the utilities or industrial sectors, with an understanding of the operational risks and regulatory environment.

  • Familiarity with fraud investigations or regulatory compliance processes.

  • Experience with the energy industry and a commitment to contributing to the UK's transition to Net Zero.
