**Job Description:**
We are currently seeking an experienced **Site Engineer** for a 3-6 month contract to work on a **highways scheme** in **Cambridge**. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in highway construction and civil engineering, with the ability to manage the day-to-day engineering operations on-site. This role requires a proactive individual who can ensure the project is delivered to the highest standards of quality, safety, and efficiency.
**Key Responsibilities:**
- **Setting out and surveying:** Carry out precise setting out, level control, and surveying of the works, ensuring all work is carried out in accordance with design specifications.
- **Highway experience:** Apply technical knowledge and previous highways experience to manage and oversee all engineering activities related to the construction of roadways, drainage, and other associated works.
- **Quality control:** Ensure all works are delivered to the required quality standards and specifications, maintaining accurate records of quality checks.
- **Health & Safety:** Ensure all work complies with Health and Safety regulations, implementing risk assessments and method statements to ensure safe site operations.
- **Liaison:** Communicate effectively with the project team, subcontractors, and clients to ensure work progresses in line with the project plan.
- **Materials and equipment:** Coordinate the ordering, use, and management of materials, plant, and equipment on-site.
- **Progress reporting:** Report on project progress, providing updates to the site manager or project manager, and assist in resolving any on-site issues.
- **Problem-solving:** Act as the first point of contact for technical queries, solving engineering issues and overcoming on-site challenges.
**Requirements:**
- Proven experience as a **Site Engineer** on **highways projects**.
- Familiarity with highway construction techniques, standards, and regulations.
- Proficiency in **setting out** using GPS, total station, and other relevant surveying equipment.
- Strong understanding of **Health & Safety** practices and legislation.
- Ability to interpret technical drawings and specifications.
- Excellent communication and organizational skills.
- Relevant qualifications such as a degree in Civil Engineering or equivalent experience.
- A valid CSCS card.
- UK driving license.
**Desirable:**
- Previous experience working with local authorities or highways agencies.
- Knowledge of drainage, road resurfacing, and traffic management systems.
- Proficiency in AutoCAD and other design software.
**Rate:** Competitive day rates, dependent on experience.
