About the role:

Are you passionate about making a real difference in children’s lives? We’re looking for a compassionate and dedicated SEN Teaching Assistant with a specialism in Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) needs to join a vibrant, inclusive primary school in Islington, London. This role is perfect for someone who thrives on helping children overcome challenges, particularly those dealing with anxiety, depression, or other SEMH concerns. As an SEN Teaching Assistant with a specialism in SEMH, you’ll be working closely with children in Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2 who are experiencing challenges such as anxiety, depression, or emotional distress. Your role will be to provide emotional and academic support, helping these children to feel safe, valued, and ready to learn.

Application Requirements:

• Previous experience working with children with SEMH needs.

• Patience, empathy, and excellent communication skills.

• A passion for working in education and supporting children with additional needs.

• A flexible, positive attitude, and the ability to work well within a team.

• An understanding of safeguarding practices.

Key Responsibilities:

• Offering 1:1 or small group support to students with SEMH needs.

• Working closely with teachers to tailor learning experiences that address individual emotional and academic needs.

• Assisting students in developing coping strategies and building resilience.

• Encouraging positive social interactions and helping pupils develop their confidence.

• Helping to implement behaviour management strategies in line with the school’s policies.
