The role & about the client:
 
Due to continued growth, my client is looking for experienced hands-on Site Manager / Foremen or Team Leader with civil trade skills to supplement and lead our Tunneling civil structural repair teams.

We have a pipeline of exciting projects and are looking for extra resources to fulfill existing contract obligations. The work involves conducting civil structural maintenance within difficult environments such as river walls, embankments, bridges, culverts and tunnels and groundwork's. Our engineering work is often conducted within confined spaces so any experience of this would be an advantage, otherwise training will be provided.

We are looking for a motivated and energetic Civil's Site Manager with experience of running teams on civil's construction sites (not residential or industrial). The role requires an individual who is comfortable in leading site teams from a hands-on role within dynamic environments.
The applicant must be content to work on site and be confident to work in most civil's environments. The applicant will need to be flexible to meet the needs of travelling to/from sites to meet the needs of our clients and must be able to work away from the EDS base for project duration as work requirements dictate.
 
Please note, this will be a dynamic, hands-on role, working physically with the site team (not office based), operating plant and teaching skills to more junior team members.

We are looking for candidates who are also happy to work away from home/travel as needed for projects on both short- and medium-term basis.

Usually this will be Monday - Friday only, but flexibility of the candidate will be a huge advantage.
 
Key responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
 
  • Review and understand the project requirements and objectives and work with the Project Manager to raise any technical queries and requests for information.
  • Understand the project risks and opportunities.
  • Represent the company in a Client facing role at site and progress meetings.
  • Ensure compliance with legal requirements and company policies and procedures for health safety, environment and quality and provide the requisite information to the Compliance team to demonstrate compliance.
  • Provide input into tenders and assist other personnel with the development of pre-construction document when required, advising on safety and build-ability aspects.
  • Prepare and maintain suitable records of all work during the project delivery phase.
  • Assist and lead with elements of physical project work as required to assure timely delivery, providing direction to less experienced site personnel.
  The ideal candidate
 
The ideal candidate would have experience working as a Site Manager for a Civil's Tunneling Contractor.
 
Essential Qualifications/ experience required/ specific requirements for the role:
 
  • SMSTS qualification minimum
  • Commercial / Contractual
  • Effectively plan and resource the site works to ensure that project delivery programme can be met.
  • Understand contract requirements around key dates and change management, working in conjunction with the Project Manager. Identify and record any works not within the original contract scope.
  • Compile detailed site records covering all aspects of the work including testing for Quality Assurance and Control.
  • Record all plant, materials and consumables on the project record sheet and seek opportunities for cost reductions.
  • Manage sub-contractors, EDS Site Supervisors / Foreman and other site based personnel effectively to assure project milestones are met.
  • Work with the Project Manager to prepare monthly progress reports and provide inputs into cost monitoring,
  • Out turn cost projection and valuations.
  • Maintain regular communication with the Project Manager and company resources programmer in order to plan effectively for site resource requirements.
  • Preferable Skills
  • Confined Space Trained (City & Guilds Level)
  • Experience of working within Tunneling environments.
  • Experience of working in and around plant CPCS Plant
  • Salary and terms will be competitive and negotiable depending on the candidate.

  • Health and Safety
  • Ensure adherence with all company safety and legislative requirements.
  • Assure the security of sites to mitigate or minimise the risk of loss through theft or vandalism.
  • Lead by example, providing safety leadership throughout the project and proactively work to improve safety standards.
  • Identify any changes to method statements and risk assessments, revise project construction documentation and brief others proactively by carrying out toolbox talks, activity and other safety briefings as required.
  • Minimise waste and energy consumption to meet company key performance indicators and objectives.
  • Carry out site audits and work with Compliance team to evidence compliance with company policies and procedures.
  • People Management Ensure that the site is run safely and cost-effectively
  • Ensure all members of the project team are aware of the project objectives and their own role and responsibility in the success of the project.
  • Proactively lead site teams on all aspects of delivery assuring safety leadership.
  • Recognise performance, motivate and train site personnel.
  • Maintain high standards of site welfare, site cleanliness, organisation and security.
  • Promote the learning and development needs of site personnel. Identify training requirements and provide feedback to Civil's Manager.
