GI Group are now seeking to appoint a Food Technician to our client based in Stockport. The Food Technician will provide technical support to teaching staff and classes primarily during Food Technology practical classes.

Main Duties of the Food Technician:

  • Prepare and provide ingredients, set up trays and equipment for each practical lesson.
  • Assist teachers and students during practical food lessons.
  • Support groups or individual students who require additional help in carrying out practical lessons, as directed by the teaching staff.
  • Provide a tray of ingredients for students who have their ingredients provided.
  • Prepare food items for the teaching staff to use as part of a demonstration.
  • Provide support/guidance to students, under the direction of teaching staff, on using equipment.
  • Monitor stock using FIFO, keeping the stock up to date by raising orders, preparing shopping lists, carrying out the shopping on a weekly basis in preparation for practical lessons and for children who have ingredients provided.
  • Prepare specialist equipment and make it available for students during lessons.
  • Carry out all laundry duties, including washing, drying and storing dish cloths, tea towels and aprons on a daily basis.
  • Check temperatures of fridges and freezers to ensure that they meet Food Hygiene regulations.
  • Be aware of and implement Health, Safety and Hygiene regulations including Food Hygiene Standards, H&S at Work and COSHH.

Role Requirements:

  • Experience in food preparation, nutrition and food hygiene
  • Ability to form positive relationships with young people
  • Ability to work under pressure
  • Ability to work as part of a team
  • Able to offer some flexibility in working hours
  • Willingness to train as a First Aider
