Location: Purley

Salary:  range is £48-55k per annum

10% annual bonus.

£3k Outstanding inspection bonus

Our client is looking for an experienced Registered Manager join an Outstanding Ofsted-rated children’s home.  The Children Services which operates an existing that has a therapeutic approach that supports children and young people within our residential care. They support children who display a wide range of complex and challenging care needs, by delivering individual and bespoke therapeutic interventions. The approach to residential care support is called 'Intentional Parenting.' This approach encapsulates all our interventions and strategies to support and engage with children with high care needs. The approach ensures the whole professional team has a clear understanding of the therapeutic model via our team around the child approach.

They aim to meet each child where they are at in life and learn to view life from their experience and perspective, this approach enables us to build positive relationships and engage them on their onward journey. The staff team intentionally parent children throughout their journey to recovery through intensive support and mentoring. They aim to build relationships with young people that are safe and supportive.

Purpose of Post

The post holder reports to the Residential Director for Family Homes. The Registered Manager would lead the day-to-day operational tasks within the home and overall safeguarding of young people. To work alongside a Deputy Manager and Residential Director to embed therapeutic interventions and practice within the home and through staff development.

He/she will undertake the responsibilities of the Registered manager under the Care Standards Act 2000, the Children’s Homes National Minimum Standards and the Children’s Home Regulations.

The Right Candidate:

The successful applicant will support and manage staff within our home while acting as a cooperative parent to the children we care for. The service will primarily support children with EBD and the duties will include:

To have direct experience of Ofsted and managing an regulated Inspection.

To demonstrate the safeguarding expectations of a Registered Manager.

To lead all Ofsted inspections and maintain a successful rating for our services.

To conduct monthly Reg 44 visits.

To supervise and offer constructive feedback and be involved in the assessment and supervision of staff.

To update and review policies and procedures to reflect the aims and objectives of the home, and to develop systems for monitoring progress towards the achievement of such aims and objectives.

To ensure that services are delivered according to the Statement of Purpose for the home.

To lead on Reg 45 reporting expectations.

To assess the development needs of residents and to monitor and improve the home’s care plan and practices for each young person.

To generate an open and supportive atmosphere within the home between staff members and between staff and residents, to enable the growth and development of both staff and residents.

To ensure the home is physically safe and to provide a good quality environment for the children.

To create and develop links between the community and the home to enable children to participate fully in the life of the community.

To ensure children and staff are aware of all the procedures relating to complaints and concerns and how to activate them.

To recruit, train and develop staff to meet the objectives of the home in accordance with agreed procedures.

To manage and operate budgets within the agreed guidelines for the home.

To ensure the assessed needs of young people in the home are met on a day-to-day basis.

To contribute effectively to each child’s placement plan review and child in care review

To ensure that the young person contributes as far as is feasible in the review process.

To ensure that there is a comprehensive plan for young people preparing to leave care.

To undertake Out of Hours duties including on-call, alongside other managers.

Ensuring the protection and safeguarding of the wellbeing of the young people in our care.

  • Building and creating mutual trust and respect with young people so that they respond and react appropriately to information and advice.
  • Producing, maintaining, and distributing house paperwork to ensure relevant information is recorded accurately and is available.
  • Managing the complex behaviours of the children and young people to encourage them to engage in a positive and structured routine, including supporting crisis intervention.
  • Other duties commensurate with the level and nature of the post.

 Essential

To hold an NVQ Level 5 in Leadership & Management in Residential Children’s Services or equivalent. Or to be working towards the completion of an NVQ Level 5.

To have direct experience in leading and supporting an Ofsted inspection and Reg 44 visits

Due to OFSTED regulations, all employees in our Residential Service must be over 20 years of age.

Previous experience in a Registered Manager role within a children’s home or residential Children’s Care Setting. To provide evidence of previous Ofsted reports that showcase your experience and knowledge as a Registered Manager.

To have worked in a rated Good or Outstanding service.

Physically fit, able to pass the Ofsted fit person questionnaire.

Resilient, enthusiastic, and motivated person

Ability to lead staff teams effectively and confidently.

Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written

Calm, approachable manner, adaptable and non-judgemental

Able to work under my initiative and as part of a team.

Excellent organisational skills

Knowledge of Child Protection & Safeguarding

Ability to drive and holds a current driving license.

Experience in the line management of staff, including supervision.

Social Work Qualification or equivalent

Any relevant or transferrable skills, such as First Aid training.

Knowledge of the Children Act & Children’s Homes Regulations

Understanding and knowledge of the Therapeutic Approach to Childcare

The flexibility of hours as there will be occasional contact outside of normal working hours.
