Report to the School Business Manager

Responsible for Catering Assistants

As a Chef you will be responsible for high quality food production. You will be assisting the School Business Manager in creating and reviewing menu selection on a regular basis. Also you would be required to order, prepare and serve meals up to high standard.

You will be responsible for all hygiene, HACCP related aspects of the kitchen and the Dining Hall. Ultimately you would be required to offer a wide choice of menu selection which meets the cultural and nutritional needs of the children and staff.

Key duties

• Ensure all food is fresh.

• Follow the menu agreed for the school. Discuss and seek the consent of the School Business Manager if there are changes to the menu.

• Pay attention allergen control procedures

• Check and monitor storeroom, freezers and fridges

• Assist the staff to maintain clean and tidy environment at all times

• Ensure compliance with dietary and religious requirements

• Provide guidance to Catering Staff on service and portion control

• Adhere to departmental practices, including food hygiene, health and safety, waste management, stock control

• Ensure the cleaning routine is implemented always both in the dining hall and the kitchen

• Monitor all kitchen equipment reporting any defects

• Ensure all staff are inducted in regulations reqarding food safety, organisational procedures etc.

• Wear appropriate clothing in respect of health and hygiene practices

• Undertake any other additional duties as required Competences:

• Previous experience of working as a Chef in a similar environment

• Food & Hygiene Certificate – Essential

• Experience in catering for up to 300 people – Desirable

• Good communication and interpersonal skills – Essential

• Ability to work as part of a team – essential

• Planning and organisational skills – essential

• Experience in ordering and management of supply base – Essential

• Ability to meet tight deadlines and work well under pressure – Essential The above is not an exhaustive list and you would be expected to perform different tasks as necessitated by your changing role within the organisation.
