This is an exciting opportunity to join a leading Retail Point of Sale (POS) company as a Middleweight Design Engineer.  Reporting to the Design Director, you will be working within the engineering design team to transform visualised concepts into accurate and efficient manufacturing drawings, ensuring budgetary, aesthetic and functional requirements are met in line with customer expectations.  You must be able to use 3D CAD packages, have knowledge of manufacturing processes and experience of working within the Retail Display / POS sector.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Take approved visuals / concepts / written briefs and produce prototype and manufacturing drawings. Developing functional, aesthetically relevant, and manufacturable displays within budget and time constraints.
  • Liaise closely with Account Managers and / or Project Managers to develop customer-focussed solutions.
  • Collaborate with the conceptual designers to faithfully realise the chosen design, and with colleagues in the Estimating Department to ensure budgetary constraints are achieved.
  • Work closely with Prototype Department to evaluate and, if necessary, redesign prototypes, ensuring that the delivered production units perform satisfactorily.
  • Liaise with the factory departments as needed to verify construction, specifications and quality.
  • Ensure all required project documentation adheres to company defined processes - detailed 2D Part and Assembly Drawings, Bills of Materials, QC guidelines, Technical Specification Sheets and Assembly Diagrams.
  • Communicate project status regularly and effectively with Line Manager.

EDUCATION, SKILLS, EXPERIENCE:

  • 2-3 years’ experience within the Retail Display / POS sector or in a closely related field.
  • Relevant Design Engineering degree is desirable.
  • Ability to find solutions to design challenges, with a positive approach to lateral thinking, providing innovative solutions to design challenges.
  • Knowledge of relevant manufacturing processes, both within and outside of a factory.
  • Good time management, able to manage projects and concentrate on key tasks to deliver on time.
  • Awareness of the customer relationship and whole project process, not just the design phase itself.
  • Good attention to detail.
  • Computer literate to a high standard, including use of MS Office.
  • Able to use 3D CAD (ideally Solidworks).
  • Good communicator, able to present ideas with clarity and confidence.
  • Self-motivated – needing limited supervision to stay productive.
  • Able to work well both within a team and independently as required.
