The Opportunity
We are currently searching for an experienced Data Specialist, ideally with a nuclear background, to join a development team who are focusing on the simulation of Radiation Transport and Reactor Physics. The knowledge gained in these areas is then applied to other sectors, including nuclear engineering, medical physics and space shielding.

Location: Birchwood Or Dorchester
Hybrid and Flexible working arrangements, including part time, are available.

The role
As a Nuclear Data Specialist, you will be assisting with the development of a sophisticated, industry-leading, bespoke software package which is currently in use in 30 countries around the world. Your work will directly impact on the development of some of the latest technologies in the nuclear sector, including Small Modular Reactors (SMR) and Advanced Modular Reactors (AMR), by maintaining and modifying existing data management codes.
Alongside your regular work, you will have the opportunity to attend professional development courses, as well as visiting client sites, conferences and workshops.

This role is offered on a full-time, permanent basis. You can be based out of our clients’ offices in Dorchester or Warrington, with Hybrid and Flexible opportunities being offered.

**Due to the nature of our client’s work, we are only able to consider full British Nationals. You must be eligible, or already hold, SC Security Clearance**

Your duties and responsibilities will be
  • Code developer of nuclear data processing codes
  • Development of underpinning mathematical methods and data structures in our data libraries
  • Performing nuclear data validation for a range of radiation transport analysis cases
  • Delivering technical training courses to a specialist audience
  • Working as a team to develop the databases required for computational simulations
  • Presenting results at technical meetings and conferences (where appropriate)
  • Interfacing closely with the international academic research community
  • Generating new business through interaction with international commercial customers.
You will have the following qualifications & experience
  • An undergraduate degree in mathematics, physics or engineering, or any other subject with a strong mathematical component.
  • A background in mathematical and physical theory and its implementation in nuclear data evaluation and processing.
  • Programming skills in languages such as Fortran, Python or Java
  • Ability to think innovatively and to solve complex problems and able to quickly and efficiently absorb new technical skills.
  • Self-motivated, with a genuine passion for the field of nuclear / reactor physics.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to work both independently and collaboratively.
It’s great if you also have the following
  • Previous experience in the Nuclear Sector.
  • Or a strong interest/understanding of the Nuclear Sector if coming from another highly regulated industry.
The setting for the role
Risks and Hazards are in line with working on a nuclear licenced site. These can include, nuclear fuel, radiation, chemicals and gasses, high voltage equipment, moving vehicles, flammable materials, high pressure circuits, steam, high noise and vibration levels. A full site induction will be provided and all safety requirements must be adhered to when entering the site.
