Shorterm Group have designed a paid upskilling programme that takes experienced light vehicle/car mechanics and upskills them to be highly competent HGV technicians. It is working on Fire Engines.

This is a 1-year paid "work and learn" programme. The training programme consists of 24 separate planned on the job (OTJ) training practical assessments across the year.
HGV/Fire Engines and Support vehicles
* Client: Babcock International
* Location: Ruislip
* Working on Blue light vehicles - Fire Engines and support vehicles
* Shift: Shift work: Early/Late shifts, 06:00-14:30 and 13:30-22:00, Monday to Friday
* Salary: Starting circa £34k p.a for a 40hr worked week, with overtime available. There is a permanent role with a salary of circa £44k upon completion of the programme - 1 year.
* Duration: 12 months in the clients' depot - after this there is a very good prospect of full-time employment direct with the client and a pay increase.
* IMI accreditation upon completion of the 1-year programme.
* The client has about 11/12 years left on the contract, so this is a long term, secure opportunity.


Candidates for this position will need to have the following:

* Will have completed an apprenticeship in light vehicle mechanics and repair, BTEC, City & Guilds qualification or a level 2equivalent relevant qualification. In exceptional cases we will consider candidates who do not possess a level 2 qualification or equivalent but who have strong relevant technical expertise.
* Hold a full UK drivers' licence.
* Own a laptop/PC and have domestic internet connectivity.
* Have the right to live and work in the UK.
* Live within a reasonable commute of a designated garage.
* Own a toolbox and tools as befits a practicing car mechanic or equivalent.
