Control & Instrumentation (C&I) Engineer

An Oil & Gas Company based in Hampshire are looking for a C&I Engineer to come and join their team. 

Responsibilities:
  • Identify opportunities for plant improvements, develop project scopes, and plan schedules within the Engineering Department.
  • Design and implement new process control systems and safety systems as part of capital projects.
  • Monitor capital and operational budgets relating to C&I activities to ensure cost-effectiveness.
  • Take financial responsibility for small-scale C&I projects.
  • Lead functional safety efforts on-site, including development, maintenance, and support tasks.
  • Review Safety Instrumented Systems (SIS) documentation and enhance safety and control systems for compliance with international standards.
  • Produce key deliverables such as SIL verification documents and Safety Requirement Specifications, using specialized calculation software.
  • Specify, test, and commission upgrades for SIS and control systems.
  • Ensure that instrumentation and hazardous area designs comply with industry regulations.
  • Provide technical support for operations, including diagnosis, root cause analysis, and necessary remedial actions to maintain system availability and integrity.
  • Support maintenance activities for site-wide process control and safety systems, including communication interfaces, vendor equipment, and remote access.
  • Lead, guide, and supervise C&I Technicians.
  • Ensure all required documentation and certifications are up-to-date and compliant with relevant regulations.
  • Implement changes in the Safety Management System in response to updated legislation.
Qualifications and Experience:
  • Hold or be working towards an HNC or equivalent qualification in a relevant engineering field.
  • Progress towards professional registration with a recognized engineering institution.
  • Experience in oil and gas production, energy operations, or similar fields with knowledge of control and instrumentation standards.
  • Demonstrated problem-solving skills and proactive decision-making abilities.
  • Experience in plant operations, particularly working closely with operational personnel in the energy sector.
  • Technical experience in diagnosing control system faults and conducting root cause analysis.
  • Familiarity with the design, maintenance, and operation of Safety Instrumented Systems.
  • Knowledge of relevant safety standards (IEC 61508, IEC 61511) and explosive atmosphere regulations (BS EN 60079).

  • Ability to build relationships, communicate effectively with diverse teams, and work collaboratively with external stakeholders.
  • Strong reliability, attention to detail, and ability to perform under pressure.
  • Commitment to safe working practices and continuous improvement.
  • Proficiency with engineering software such as PLC application software and AutoCAD.
  • Skilled in Microsoft Office Suite, including project management tools.

Hours:                                                             Monday – Friday 9am – 5pm
