The Role
The successful candidate will be expected to oversee a range of services at the Port of Dover. This will include (but not be limited to) the berthing and unberthing of vessels, the operation of linkspans, and the marshalling and directing of traffic for the loading and discharge of vessels at various locations in and around the Port.
They will be required to effectively manage the service delivery teams, ensuring that all company, client and Port Authority protocols are followed and that the relevant certification is in date for each operation.
Principal Responsibilities
- Communicate effectively with the Port of Dover, team members, vessel staff and other stakeholders to provide an smooth, professional service
- Serve as loadmaster for vessel calls
- Moor and unmoor vessels in accordance with safe working practices, under the direction of vessel pilots or crew members
- Conduct Port traffic movements and operations in accordance with company and Port procedures
- Manage teams, overseeing tasks as required
- Ensure a smooth traffic flow for the car/freight check-in process
- Ensure continuous manning of freight reception and opening/closing of check-in booths
- Supervise the use of Tug Masters, forklifts and associated equipment
- Assist with Ro-Ro Bridge operations when required for all linkspans at the Port
- Oversee the gig-boat crew during operations, both within the Port and at Tranmere Oil Terminal
- Conduct Toolbox Talks for all crew members prior to shift commencement
- Ensure that all policies and procedures are adhered to by the workforce
- Ensure that all required documentation is completed in line with Irish Ferries’ processes
The Candidate
Previous experience in a similar role is essential. The successful candidate will also be expected to adopt a flexible working attitude to provide support across all departments and be available to work rotating day-night shifts.
