Are you passionate about supporting children with Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) needs? We are looking for a dedicated and compassionate SEMH Learning Support Assistant to join our inclusive and nurturing primary school.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide one-to-one and small group support for students with SEMH needs, helping them to engage with learning and school life.
  • Assist in developing and implementing tailored learning and behaviour plans, focusing on the child's social, emotional, and academic development.
  • Work closely with the SENCO (Special Educational Needs Coordinator), teachers, and external professionals to ensure that the support provided aligns with each child’s needs.
  • Support the creation of a calm, supportive, and safe environment where students feel valued and encouraged.
  • Help students manage their emotions, behaviours, and social interactions, using de-escalation techniques and promoting positive coping strategies.
  • Monitor and record students’ progress, reporting regularly to the SENCO and contributing to reviews of individual support plans.

Requirements:

  • Experience working with children with SEMH or related special educational needs in a school or similar setting.
  • Strong understanding of behaviour management strategies and an empathetic, patient approach to challenging behaviours.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to build trusting relationships with students, staff, and parents.
  • Commitment to safeguarding and promoting the well-being of children.
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a wider support team.
