What you’ll do

Surrey Cricket Foundation is responsible for all recreational cricket within Surrey and South London. We are looking for a Discrimination Investigator to lead on investigations on all discrimination cases within the adult and junior recreational structure. The role will also be looking to proactively work across our network of clubs and community organisation to ensure we are providing the mostly welcoming environments possible and ensuring cricket is the most inclusive team sport.

Requirements

1.   Investigation and Resolution:

  • Act as the single point of contact for Surrey Cricket Foundation on discrimination matters.
  • Support Surrey Cricket Foundation to effectively manage cases of discrimination which have either been reported directly to Surrey or to the Cricket Regulator; including investigation, early intervention, or other suitable resolutions.
  • To collect relevant evidence and information to build a comprehensive understanding of each case.
  • To analyse information, evaluate evidence objectively and impartially to determine the credibility of allegations and established facts surrounding each case.
  • To ensure a fair and unbiased process whilst maintaining confidentiality where possible.
  • Investigate reports of discrimination promptly, impartially, and confidentially.
  • Collaborate with relevant parties to address and resolve discrimination issues effectively.
  • To support disciplinary proceedings when required, including representing the County during hearings and providing evidence as necessary.
  • To maintain accurate and organised records of all investigations and ensuring GDPR compliance.
  • To co-ordinate and arrange discipline commissions, personal hearings and appeals and act as Secretary.

 

2.             Training and Education:

  • Provide consistent guidance, advice, and training on discrimination matters to the network of clubs, leagues and community groups within Surrey and South London. 
  • Attend Training and CPD (Continuing Professional Development) events where required.
  • To upskill, develop and support relevant members of the Surrey Cricket Foundation executive..
  • To conduct workshops and training sessions to raise awareness of the ECB rules and regulations. These include the Anti discrimination code, general conduct regulations and discipline processes and more generically the equality act 2010, recreational club constitutions and code of conducts.

 

3.             Monitoring and Reporting:

  • Monitor trends and themes within Surrey and report into the Cricket Regulator to ensure best practices are shared.
  • Prepare written reports on the status of discrimination-related issues and recommend improvements within the County.
  • Identify and respond to potential gaps in discipline and discrimination processes that could be a risk to Surrey Cricket Foundation.  

 

4.             Stakeholder Management:

  • Collaborate with Lead Officer, EDI lead and other relevant stakeholders to ensure a coordinated approach to discrimination prevention and resolution.
  • Support Surrey Cricket Foundation and associated leagues to understand and implement and enforce the ECB (England and Wales Cricket Board) Anti-discrimination code (ADC) and help them move towards best practice in responding and managing cases of discrimination. 
  • Maintain a close working relationship with The Cricket Regulator in particular the Anti-Discrimination Unit and Recreational Discipline manager.
  • Build relationships with leagues, competitions and club chairs within Surrey and support them on management of discipline cases that involve discrimination.
  • Network to share best practices and stay informed about industry standards.

 

5.             Awareness Campaigns:

  • Develop and implement awareness campaigns to promote a culture of diversity and inclusion.
  • Regularly communicate updates on policies, initiatives, and resources related to discrimination prevention across the Surrey Cricket Foundation Network.
  • Promote consistent and clear messaging around EDI (Equality, Diversity, and Inclusion) for Surrey Cricket Foundation.
  • Implement local solutions that improve a complainant’s experience of reporting discrimination.
  • Lead on Surrey’s implementation of digital solutions to ensure ECB has a game wide view of discrimination

 

The Person

The successful candidate will have the following experience/skills/qualities:

Experience:

  • Experience in a similar role (either paid or unpaid), with a focus on discrimination prevention, diversity, and inclusion (in sport preferable but not essential.)
  • Experience of leading on investigations.
  • Experience of writing reports and compiling case related evidence and information.
  • Experience of implementing policies, protocols, and guidance.
  • Experience of working with challenging customers and supporting the delivery of their enquiries.

 

Knowledge

  • Knowledge of the structure and partner organisations within cricket, nationally and within the County Board locality, or sport more widely.
  • Knowledge and experience of ECB Rules and Regulations.

Skills:

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information with discretion.
  • Excellent time management skills.
  • Strong analytical and critical thinking skills with diligence
  • Ability to work as part of a team and autonomously.
  • Developed influencing skills.
  • Good computer literacy, including MS Office.

Some flexibility around working hours will be required including evenings and weekends.

Satisfactory ECB DBS Check and the right to work in the United Kingdom.

Benefits

£30,000-£35,000 per annum dependant on experience

5% Club Bonus Scheme

23 days holiday increasing to 28 days based on length of service
