Job Title: Technical Programme Manager

Salary: circa £60,000 per annum

Hours per week: 35 (flexible options considered in line with business needs)

About the roleIn this pivotal role, you'll be at the heart of our business transformation, driving the success of high-profile initiatives that will shape the future of our organisation. Reporting directly to the Head of Technology & Transformation, you’ll lead the charge in defining and executing top-tier project delivery services across our corporate portfolios.

This role will lead in defining and delivering a top-tier project delivery service for business initiatives. To achieve this, you will manage and oversee the portfolios consisting of multiple projects through the complete project lifecycle. The role will include overall direction, coordination, implementation, execution, control and completion of your own projects, whilst also mentoring and supporting the Project Management Business Partners, Business Analyst and Contracts team.

In this role, you will be responsible for setting the strategic direction and operational requirements for Project Delivery, ensuring seamless integration across all IOSH directorates. You’ll have the reins on project management functions, budget oversight, stakeholder engagement, and change management, ensuring that every project you touch delivers.

Whether you’re a master of Project and Programme Management frameworks like Waterfall and Agile or eager to expand your knowledge, you’ll excel in this role.

With a strong grasp of project management principles, including planning, monitoring, and controlling projects, you are either experienced in these frameworks or eager to learn. Your solid financial management skills encompass budgeting and project accounting, and you have a proven ability to lead, train, and manage teams of project managers and business analysts. Your exceptional communication and presentation skills are complemented by experience in writing clear reports and business cases.

Essential criteria

  • In depth understanding of information technology, how it impacts business process and helps solve business issues.
  • Knowledge and experience of Project and Programme Management principles and/or frameworks (Waterfall, Agile)
  • Good understanding of the principles and frameworks of successful project management including knowledge of programme and project management methods and techniques for planning, monitoring and controlling programmes or is an experience business leader willing to adapt and learn those principles and frameworks.
  • Strong understanding of financial management and including project accounting tools and methods of budgeting.
  • Ability to train, supervise and manage PMBPs and business analysts to work effectively with all stakeholders.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills with the ability to write management reports and sound business cases in a clear logical and concise way.
  • Strong presentation skills with ability to conduct presentations comfortably to large groups and to clearly communicate complex messages to a variety of audiences.
  • Experience of implementing and using project management tools, processes, methods and standards.
  • Track record of successful delivery of projects, including benefits realisation.
  • Proven project management experience or business owner of change experience
  • Proven experience in providing service to internal and/or external stakeholders to achieve successful business outcomes and successful management of change.
  • A recognised Association for Project Management (APM) qualification.
