Mid-Market Underwriter – Property & Casualty

Monday-Friday (hybrid)

Salary: up to £50,000 DOE

Our client, a leading insurance company are looking for Property and Casualty Underwriter to join their Commercial Team in Birmingham. They’re currently undergoing a period of significant growth so there has never been a better time to join their team!

The commercial team support business customers large and small by making it easy to do business in a way that suits them. As part of the team you will help to shape the narrative and continue driving service excellence for customers. You’ll have close collaboration within your team and build key relationships with brokers.

What you’ll be doing:

  •  Underwrite Property & Casualty business profitably, accurately, consistently and in line with established underwriting practices.
  • Build a reputation as a trading expert with a panel of intermediaries and build confidence in the branch ability through interaction with our Underwriting Technical Centre.
  • Contribute to meetings with brokers and end customers to portray capabilities and secure new business opportunities.
  • Identify poorly performing accounts and investigate reasons for lack of retention.
  • Agree and implement actions with senior underwriter, TTM & AM to increase retention.
  • Actively encourage retention of profitable business.

The ideal candidate:

  • Strong trading capability, commercial awareness, negotiation skills, ability to build strong broker relationships.
  • Pragmatic decision making with good analytical and numerical reasoning skills.
  • Strong analytical skills with proven experience of account monitoring and action planning.
  • Proven experience in decision making on a wide range of underwriting scenarios within a Commercial environment.
  • Sound understanding of insurance market and processes across commercial lines insurance operations.
  • Sound knowledge of legislative and regulatory requirements for insurance, including treating customers fairly.
  • Experience of working in teams and a successful record of delivering results.
  • Excellent interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills.
  • Experience within Property and Casualty discipline capability.
  • DIP CII qualification with ACII desirable
