Finishing Shop Manager

Our client supply precision materials parts to a variety of different sectors. They are looking to recruit a Finishing Shop Manager who will be responsible for overall management of the Operational Department.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Overseeing trials of new parts and documenting processing parameters.
  • Managing stocks of cutting tools and other key consumables and requesting supplies as required.
  • Working with the Inspection team to establish quality control.
  • Lead a team of supervisors and operators including allocating daily/weekly tasks to the team.
  • Assisting operators with set up of jobs on machines, but ultimately training and mentoring operators to be self-sufficient.
  • Assess skills gaps among staff and implement training. Mitigate SPOF.
  • Providing technical input on matters such as tooling selection, processing parameters, work holding, processing sequence, finishing and packing.
  • Carrying out induction training with new starters.
  • Carrying out staff appraisals, supervisions and return to work meetings.
  • Ensuring that the team remain in date with mandatory training.
  • Ensuring ERP system 100% accuracy throughout.
  • Ensuring acceptable levels of overall equipment effectiveness are achieved.
  • Organising preventative maintenance and cleaning of machines according to manufacturer’s guidelines with the Maintenance Team.
  • Organising servicing and repairs of machines inc daily TPM’s.
  • Liaison with the Operations Director regarding planning of jobs.

  • Scheduling workload, progress tracking, budgeting, forecasting and performance management.
  • Liaison and direct reports into the Operations Director.
  • Building better SOPs and set up sheet knowledge system.
  • Ensure the team maintains a high level of health and safety standards.
  • Provide department resources to keep ahead of internal delivery dates

Skills and Qualifications/experience:

  • Ability to use CAD software a benefit but not essential
  • Ability to read and interpret drawings, schematics and manuals
  • Adaptable to change and varying situations
  • Ability to show resilience and a flexible approach
  • ERP system knowledge is essential
  • Knowledge of Health & Safety Management Systems (ideally IOSH)
  • Cutting tools, measuring instruments, and other ancillary equipment.
