About us

Our purpose is simple, to save lives at sea. Since the 19th century, our brave crews have been risking their lives to save those in danger of drowning. We’re looking for a Coast Risk Analyst to join our established Data Analytics team. The team supports the RNLI by providing quantitative analysis of risk around the coastline of the UK and Ireland. Our evidence informs operational decisions about the allocation and location of RNLI resources, including lifeboats, lifeguard units and coastal safety. You’ll join a fun and friendly team and have the opportunity to work closely with senior decision-makers in the RNLI’s Lifesaving Operations team.

Some of the benefits

- Salary £34,253 - £36,000 (dependent on experience)
- Flexible working
- 26 days’ annual leave plus Bank Holidays
- Outstanding pension scheme (contributions of up to 16% of basic salary)
- Life assurance
- Health and dental cashplan

Your role

As a Coast Risk Analyst, you will be tasked with underpinning our operational analytics, with focus on the following areas:

- To lead data analysis projects with a direct line of sight to significant decisions (potentially millions of pounds of capital spend) regarding asset allocation being made by Lifesaving Operations, the RNLI Executive Team and Trustees.
- To structure, analyse and extrapolate information from organisation data and produce reports and graphical products that advise a range of audiences.
- To engage in person and in writing with expert and non-expert stakeholders affected by the decisions and who may hold different viewpoints, potentially defusing challenging situations through communication and dialogue.
- To apply a complex and growing analytical toolset of quantitative and spatial analysis (GIS) techniques to evaluate coastal risk.
- To autonomously produce reliable and high-quality analyses, author-written papers and present the findings to a range of audiences.

About you

You will be naturally inquisitive and reliable, with a desire to understand trends and patterns in data and a willingness to explain these to a non-technical audience. To be considered as the Coast Risk Analyst, you will need:

Essential:

- An analytical or data related qualification, preferably at degree level or above, or other relevant experience.
- To be willing to travel to coastal locations across the UK and Republic of Ireland.
- An understanding of quantitative methods.
- Experience in presenting information to a wide range of audiences.
- To be able to work independently, to follow analysis through to its logical conclusion and be able to bring others on the journey.

Desirable:

- Experience of working in a maritime or coastal environment
- Experience in working with GIS/Python/SQL/LaTeX/Excel

If you want to see how the Coast Risk Analyst supports our organisation’s aim to reduce coastal drowning, this could be the role for you. Please apply via the button shown.
