  • Temporary Role - 3 months with likely extension
  • £20.92 per hour PAYE / £27.14 per hour Umbrella (increasing to £28.43 after 12 weeks)
  • Hybrid working -2 to 3 days per week in Croydon, remainder at home
  • IT equipment provided
  • up to 28 days paid annual leave (increasing to up to 37 after 12 weeks) (PAYE route only)

Our client, a South-London Local Authority, are seeking THREE Homeless Intervention and Prevention Officers to join their team to provide a bespoke homeless prevention and intervention caseworker service to those approaching the service with a housing need.

The succesful candidates will be expected to carry out early homeless prevention activities. Advise on a range of housing issues and welfare benefits, assessing support needs and working with multiple internal and external services to alleviate homelessness and provide households with positive options and sustainable housing solutions, as well as preventing homelessness will be expected to carry out in-depth homelessness inquiries and make legally sound decisions under the relevant Legislation.

Essential Knowledge

- Thorough knowledge of the legislation and duties owed to homeless persons by the Council under Part V1 and Part V11 of the Housing Act 1996, Homelessness Act 2002 & Localism Act 2011.

- Homelessness (Suitability of Accommodation) (England) orders 1996, 2003 and 2012

- Homelessness Reduction Act 2017

- Knowledge of Landlord & Tenant Legislation, the Housing Act 1985, and the Protection from Eviction Act 1977.

- Detailed working knowledge of homeless prevention initiatives and their application and effectiveness

- Detailed working knowledge of the welfare benefits system and its application

§ Able to organise workload effectively, work within agreed deadlines and prioritise urgent cases.

§ Ability to be proactive and creative in preventing homelessness and resolving complex customer problems.

§ Able to think analytically and identify key casework issues to inform sound decision making.

§ Ability to work with other agencies to ensure the best outcome for the customer, including chairing case conferences and supporting negotiations between agencies to reach positive outcomes.

§ Able to work under pressure and with customers who may exhibit challenging behaviour.

§ Able to demonstrate emotional resilience.

§ Able to work in a multidisciplinary setting and to build working relationships with internal and external agencies.

§ Excellent oral and written communication skills and ability to communicate internally and externally with customers and professionals involved in their support.

§

§ Able to use windows-based applications, MS Office, including Email and internet-based technologies.

§

§ Able to provide a caring and responsive service to customers, listening to and understanding their individual needs and concerns and addressing those needs and concerns as far as possible within the given resource constraints.

§ Abie to negotiate effectively by presenting key issues in a persuasive and balanced manner, influencing opinion, and resolving deadlocked situations.

§ Able to establish and maintain appropriate professional boundaries.
